We just can't put our finger on just why we were more then just a bit disappointed in this restaurant. The atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable. Service was adequate, but seemed to fall off when we didn't order cocktails. The meals came up a little short in quantity. If you are going to charge $32.00 for braised short ribs, take off the (s) on ribs when serving just one skimpy piece of beef. I will bet it weighed in at less then 4 ozs. Also included was a tiny ramekin of excellent mac & cheese. Otherwise it was terrific dish. Most other appetizers ordered such as Thai Lettuce Wraps for $8 consisted of Grilled Chicken, Crispy Noodles, Asian Vegetables, Spicy Peanut Sauce (lettuce was wilted, not crisp) and other entrées ordered were similarly overpriced. Another entrée ordered, Chicken & Dumplings for $12 consisted of creamy stewed chicken, parmesan dumpling, peas, carrots & asparagus was watery not creamy.
Lancaster, Pa has buckets of great restaurants, this one just fell short for us.

Great resteraunt. Staff was excellent and knowledgeable. Our waiter actually recommended regular menu items when compared to the specials of the day. He didn't go wrong in the recs. I had the filet with asparagus and grits and it was fantastic. Wife had the scallops and thought they were perfect also. Thai lettuce wraps for appetizer were very good and we had to get the grilled ceaser salad which were also very good.

I was not dissapointed with meal here or at Mazzi in Leola (15 min. away)

Having lived in Lancaster most of my life (4 yrs in NYC), and only discovering this amazing place after having moved back to the area, my best summary is "New York Style with an nonNew York Price". The Belvedere reminds me of a small bistro in Manhattan, only with much much better service and not the astronomical prices. $25-$35 entree prices as opposed to the $50+ you'll find in New York. The food is wonderful, the service has always been excellent, and the nightlife is several cuts above what you'll find elsewhere in the area. Please Please Please ignore the rural locals, most who believe that The Olive Garden is high dining. The Belvedere exists to cater to the newer locals who have moved to the north and west suburbs from more urban, more affluent areas, and can appreciate fine dining. The place is always packed, especially on the weekends, and they do almost no advertising. Mention the Belvedere to someone in a 10 mile radius around the city, and people's eyes will light up. Mention it outside the 10 mile radius, you'll get the negative reviews you read on here. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy this gem of an establishment. You will not be disappointed

Food is very good - I have never been disappointed. I like to get the Kobe burgers on Monday night - they are super cheap and always delicious.

Service is generally great - the downstairs bartender is great - always busy, but has fabulous wine recommendations.

The atmosphere is nice - tends to get a little loud at night - but is great for dancing.
