“Pets, travelers, beware.”
Reviewed July 29, 2010

I really can't find fault, with the hotel, itself, taking into consideration, the affordable rates. The room , bedding and towels were all clean and there was a nice fresh smell,in the passages.

The front of house and housekeeping ,was all very friendly and helpful.
How ever, beware, this is a pet friendly hotel and if,like us,you are on the first floor, you might be stuck, with a whining, yapping dog, next to you !

The staff had a awful battle, with very inconsiderate ,selfish ,irresponsible guests, who would leave the dog alone in the evening, and subsequently, whining and crying.

We were offered, the opportunity to move, but at almost eleven at nite ,it was a bit inconvenient, but I must thank the staff, for giving us the option..

I loved the decorating in this hotel. The service was exceptional. Very convenient to restaurants and attractions. The entering and exiting was a little tough getting into this hotel, but nice quality for the price we paid. It is very close to the highway, but the sounds did not bother me. The breakfast was better than some of the hotels I've stayed in. I would definitely return.

We went to Lancaster, PA to go to some local shops, and to get away. We had never stayed here and did not know anyone who had ever stayed here. The location was a bit hard to find when you are coming down route 30. We accidentally tried to check into the other Wyndham hotel!

ROOM: Even though this one was near the highway (literally right next to it) you couldn't really hear the cars. The room was nice though except for a few minor details. It felt very stuffy....we did put the AC on, but still it was stuffy. They said it was a queen bed, but it was definitely a full. The bathroom was clean and so was the rest of the room. The other issue was that you could sort of hear the water running/ other showers from other rooms in the bathroom....so when we were trying to go to sleep, we kept hearing this hissing noise from it... its not really that big of a deal though. We also could not get the hotel internet to work in the room which was frustrating.

BREAKFAST: Yes its free and very good... huge selection
PRICE: Great price!

My husband and I decided to go to Lancaster for Valentine's weekend. Since we were staying over only one night - we decided against a B&B and opted for this hotel.

We were pleased with the room for the price. A sitting area, queen bed (comfy with duvet covered comforter) a kitchenette and a nice sized bathroom. The couch looked a bit worn, but that's an easy fix. The overall impression was a clean, cozy , smell-free room - that's what we hoped for and that's what we got.

I was a bit nervous because the room we were placed in was on the first floor right next to the kitchen where breakfast is served AND overlooking the parking lot with the highway in the background. I have to say that we did not experience any great noise levels at all (outside of our RUDE acros- the-hall neighbors that kept slamming their door at least 20 times in an hour when we first checked in).

The breakfast selection was good - we enjoyed it before we headed out for the day.

The front desk staff were also quite pleasant and helpful as well.

First, let me start by saying we love the Hawthorn. We have been staying at this particular hotel for several years now and have always been very satisfied. The one and only problem we had on this trip was that they must have changed their policies since we stayed there a year ago, because when we checked in, we had to fork over a $50 deposit to NOT rent movies or make long distance calls from our room. We have never had to do this before and luckily we had the cash to do it this time as we do not carry credit cards with us. When we asked why we were not told of this policy when we booked the room, the lady working the desk said rather rudely "we are not required to tell you". We got the money refunded at check out, but being on a tight budget this trip it was a bit inconvenient.

Otherwise the stay was very pleasent. The rooms were very clean and the beds still wonderful. The people that were working the breakfast buffet were very nice and kept everything filled. The maintenace person was very friendly and pleasent too. Overall our stay was great. Just wished the front desk staff had been a bit friendlier and more helpful.

We usually don't travel alot so was a little concerned about the Hawthorn, (had never stayed in one) but as for our 8 days of travel this first stop on the 8 and 9th of September the Hawthorn was just fine. After reading the review about the noise of the highway, I was a little concerned but it didn't bother me at all. I did say pinesol and wow was it ever powerful at our arrival. I even filled out my comment card on that and that the bathroom floor got slippery when wet. (cleaning agent, I'd guess) The room was clean, a frig AND a microwave so we were able to have our on dinners right in the room which saved us $ on our 8 day trip. Breakfast was the best of all 4 hotels we stayed in over our time. HOT waffles with strawberry glaze! mmm The girls working the breakfast were very friendly and did a great job of keeping up the room. I can't wait to come back to Lancaster, I loved my first visit here, and will be staying at Hawthorn again availability pending.
