Tsunami is a great little restaurant: terrific food, attentive service and very reasonable prices!
Don't be put off by the outward appearance of Tsunami. It is a 30 year old converted Burger King and looks old and dated from the outside, but inside it is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. It won't win any points for ambience, but who cares when the food is delicious, well presented and served by a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. As an added bonus, it's BYOB with no corkage fee.
This is the place to go if you are new to sushi and feel a bit uncomfortable because you haven't a clue what to order. The owner and the staff are extremely helpful and will help you through the menu and explain what each dish is all about. It is also the place to go if you are a sushi expert -- if you want something not on the menu, just ask and the owner will make up a sushi roll or plate with whatever ingredients you specify.
We had a new item tonight: Tsunami Poppers: a tempura battered, deep fried jalapeno stuffed with crab and all sorts of other goodies and then served with three different sauces. These poppers were beyond delicious and I will order this dish every time I return to this restaurant.
If you don' t care for sushi -- that's OK, because they have lots of other things on the menu, although they all have an Oriental theme. The Korean Beef Barbecue, the Vietnamese Pork Chop and the Pho (a traditional Vietnamese broth with noodles), among other available non-sushi dishes, are excellent.
We have dined at Tsunami five or six times in the past year or so and have found it to be consistently good. It is run by the chef owner (who used to be at Blue Pacific) and he treats his regular customers like friends. If you are in the mood for sushi or Thai/Vietnamese/Oriental cuisine, you can't go wrong here! All things considered, informal dining just doesn't get much better than this.
