My family recently returned from a one-night stay at the DoubleTree in Lancaster and it was a great experience! First of all, the hotel is beautiful and very clean. We were able to check-in one hour early, and the staff was very friendly (loved the chocolate chip cookies). Although the hotel was sold-out (it was Easter weekend), you would not have known that walking around the hotel or in the pool area.
The pool area was great - towels stocked, very clean (and I'm a clean freak) and besides about one hour around check-in, never seemed annoyingly crowded. Our kids (5 and 7 yr old boys) had a blast in the playground area which had a tube slide, sprinkler things, and a mini slide. And the heated pool was large enough to accommodate a decent number of people. Best times for the pool were before 4pm and after 6pm, and again in the morning.
When the kids needed a break from the pool, we walked around the grounds - checked out the pond, playground, basketball court and bakery. Then back to the pool! Later we ate in the restaurant (Cafe something?), which had really good food (and drinks!) and decent prices (didn't feel ripped off at all). The hotel also had events for the kids, like lots of crafts and stuff, but we didn't have time for that - too busy at the pool.
The only major downside to our stay was our room overlooked the courtyard, and at night there was a wedding -- with VERY LOUD music! My kids can sleep through a lot, but there was NO WAY any of us could have slept through that. If the front desk would have warned us, we would not have been as annoyed. The music ended at 10pm. UGH. So if you book a room, ask for a room NOT on the courtyard. It was awful. But the room was very clean and beds really comfy.
With that being said, I still give this place 5 stars because I was really impressed. We spent almost 24 hours at the resort, and the kids were never bored. I just wish the hotel staff would have warned us about the wedding.
