These shops have gone downhill over the last few years. If I were to estimate, I would say that over 1/3 of the shops are closed. The layout of the shops is also not desirable. They are all broken up in many different sections making it very hard to walk with a stroller.

We came here looking for some good "outlet" bargains and were disappointed to find alot of the shops advertised had apparently closed up and left the mall. In fairness, there is another outlet mall very close by and some of the stores were duplicated there.

Be prepared for alot of outdoor walking here. The units are set out in strip mall fashion and is spread out in mostly a line and requires alot of walking to get from one end to the other.

Not the best outlet mall I have been at, but an outlet is an outlet I guess.

For those who love to shop outlets, the Rockvale Square Outlets located in Strasburg (Lancaster), PA is worth the trip.

Easy to get to, this complex is filled with wonderful stores that contain all sorts of treasures for the bargain hunter. Keeping in mind that YOU MUST KNOW YOUR PRICES, this center can give you hours of shopping enjoyment.

Plenty of food chains are located around the outlet to give you a break during your shopping. There are also plenty of Amish stores in the same area if quilts, home-made edibles and crafts are to your liking.

The outlet itself is divided into what I would describe as strip malls located in one large area. Each section has a number of stores which are all under cover. This is wide spread so unless you are the real athletic type and want to walk and carry your purchases, it is advisable for you to keep moving your car from section to section. This is especially true in inclement weather.

Rockvale offers many on-line coupons (go to their website), in-store specials and special events. Of course any seasoned outlet shopper knows that you ALWAYS check out clearance sections first that contain many off-season clothing (at great discounts). By checking on-line you will be aware of any sidewalk sales going on too. Check out the Rockvale card that you can get that may give you additional savings. It is a must to have!

My last trip fulfilled everything that was on my list. I will caution you not to forget any discount cards, club cards (stores like Maidenform, Gold Toe have programs when you buy so much you get a card stamped and when it is full you get an additional discount) because most stores will not ask or remind you about them. Don't have one? Ask at the stores and they will get you started on their program. Takes a moment of your time and does not cost anything to join!

One negative during my last trip was that I had a coupon for TOTES for $5.00 off anything in the store and when I tried to buy a $10.00 umbrella the salesman told me the coupon was wrong (HUH??) and it only applied to certain items in the back of the store. I politely told him that I felt the coupon should be honored (I printed it off the Rockvale website) and left the un-purchased item on his counter. Not good...and was glad this was the only store that would not honor their coupon.

If you are a fan of Pepperidge Farm products there is a great outlet there that gives you a wide assortment of their products. Wonderful bargains and they also give a Senior Citizen discount above their already reduced specials.

Yes, it is true some stores come and go. It is the nature of the business but do not let that influence your decision not to stop and check it out. There is something for everyone at Rockvale.

The outlet appears to have more empty shoppes. There are two outlets close to each other (Rockvale and Tanger). Neither offer extraordinary deals. The Disney outlet, for example, offers many original priced items that are not on sale. They're the same price in the Disney Store and the Outlet. I found this to be true for many other stores. If there's a discount, it's not much. Depending on what you're looking for you can do much better at the shopping mall or independent store than the outlets.

As always you can save a buck at the outlets. Went there to buy some new Pyrex and glassware. Also hit the VF Outlet clearance center. Its a great place to save some money
