Marianne and Amos were the nicest hosts. Breakfast was home cooked and AMAZING, and left us super full. They completely spoiled us all weekend. Our room was super clean and cozy, and was waiting for us with music, candles, a faux fireplace, chocolates on the bed, and lights around our bed. Perfect for a relaxing couple's get away. We can't wait to go back!

For the same amount of money you would spend at a nearby hotel (if not more) why wouldn't you stay at this bed and breakfast instead? In fact, it's better than a hotel stay.

The B&B owners were so warm, inviting, and gracious. The breakfast alone was enough to move in permanently. Every morning for breakfast we had fresh cut fruit in a martini glass, a hearty main course, and some sort of dessert....all homemade. DELICIOUS!!!

We stayed in the Red and Gold Suite for 2 nights. It is the only suite on the top floor of the house so there was a lot of privacy. Something to consider when booking this room: the bathroom is not connected to the suite and there is no soaking tub only standing shower in this bathroom. It wasn't a problem for us but if you're looking for a soaking tub you might want to book one of the other rooms.

If you have any questions on where to go, what to do, special events, or an itinerary for the day, ask Marianne. She and Amos are the B&B owners. They provided great ideas and sample itineraries for the 2 days we were there. Great advice. The B&B's location is quite central to downtown. Walking distance to everything. I'm not a walker...I'm the type of person that would take a taxi to go a few blocks down the street rather than walk. Yes, I'm that lazy. But for this weekend we walked everywhere. It was very convenient.

I would definitely go back.

The other reviews basically sum up what I want to say about this B&B, so I'll keep my review short and sweet.

The place is so sweet and well decorated that I snapped a ton of pictures of my room after walking in and then ran back downstairs to tell the woman who runs the business how much I loved the room.

Breakfast in the morning gives you a warm feeling in your heart and is also delicious.

There are so many small touches that guests can find in their rooms that make them feel at home but also give them the special feeling that they're on a nice trip and someone cares to make them feel pampered and relaxed.

Room Tip: The Garden Suite is where I stayed, and it has a secret passage down to the kitchen, a jacuzzi, a ba...

We loved our stay at The Secret Garden. Marianne and Amos felt like old friends we had just met. The large house offers many opportunities for privacy (outside of our room) with a garden out back, a comfortable sitting room and an airy front porch overlooking historic Chestnut Street. The breakfast, scrumptious and nutritious, prepared us to face the day well fed. The location is walking distance from most everything in downtown Lancaster we wanted to see, including art galleries and restaurants. But the best part was the open, friendly and non-intrusive attitude of the Innkeepers. We enjoyed their company and hope to get back to see them soon.

Room Tip: All the rooms are private, neat and clean.

Charming B&B in the heart of Lancaster's art district on the west side of town.
Close to shops and restaurants.
Friendly & courteous hosts - Amos & Marianne.
Excellent local recommendations for sights and dinner.
We stayed in the cozy Tropical Room.
Bathroom is part of the main room. Large sunken jet tub. Only caveat is the lieu - which is only hidden by a curtain. May be an issue for some couples.
Delicious breakfast served at 9 am. Homemade strawberry jam was amazing!
Quaint garden in back for relaxing in the evening.

In my opinion, one of the biggest selling points for The Secret Garden B&B is how close the lovely old row-house is to downtown Lancaster.* This meant that after a day of touring Lancaster County, we could park, make our way to one of the restaurants in the city, have a few drinks, and then stroll back to bed. But the Secret Garden works hard to please, in its own right. The rooms are spacious and charmingly hand-decorated. The proprietors are as friendly as you could possibly wish for; we found them sitting on the porch when we got back in the evening, eager to chat, ask after our day, give advice, and tells stories about themselves and the area. (They gave some excellent advice on things to see and do in Lancaster.) Breakfast was served at nine and quite good. They readily accommodate dietary restrictions (be sure to let them know if you don't like your food well-salted!), and no guest is ever served the same meal twice. Grace is said over the meal, the proprietors retreat, then re-emerge as you're finishing up and their general love of conversation wins out. The Secret Garden also has a kitchen for guests, with a small fridge for leftovers; a stand at the top of the stairs with snacks, books, and magazines. There is in fact a garden in the back, complete with a miniature pond and several places to sit. Overall, we had a great stay, felt very well cared for, and would recommend this B&B.

*Regarding downtown: if you can make it to the Central Market, definitely do!

Stayed in the Garden Room. Wanted to take a picture as soon as I walked in. Girlfriend said it was romantic. Double jacuzzi made it therapeutic. Breakfast was delicious in 3 courses. Innkeepers were very friendly and pointed us toward two eagles nests that were the highlight of the trip.
