“The staff makes this hotel stand out above others”
Reviewed October 25, 2009

Recently stayed for 4 nights at the Lancaster Marriott on business - and not only is the hotel just beautiful - but the staff goes out of their way to make your stay a delightful one.
Can't wait to go back next year. Great restaurants nearby and loved the Central Market in the early morning.

This is a new hotel. The staff were exceptional and very friendly. The Spa was great and highly recommended. There was a nice pool area on the 5th floor. I had no problems with the valet parking. The room was comfortable and bed was amazing. Would definately stay again.

My wife and I stayed here for one week during a vacation in this area. Things started out badly. Check-in was on a Saturday. With three wedding receptions scheduled for that day at the hotel the dropoff area was overloaded with cars. The bell staff did not have a system to handle the cars and appeared overwhelmed. Getting in to the dropoff area was difficult. We had to get our luggage to our room ourselves. We booked a concierge level room but were blocked into a regular room. Naturally it took time to get the room changed to a concierge level room and changed out for our use. This full service hotel has a nice feel with the facilities being new and the rooms are clean and quiet. But the food in the concierge lounge was at best mediocre. The only hot breakfast item I found in the lounge during the week was scrambled eggs. The evening appetizers were uneven. The beef wellington appetizers served the first night were unedible. The stuffed mushrooms served the last night were tasty. The hotel charges $14 per night plus tax for self-parking in the attached city owned parking garage no matter how many nights you stay at the hotel. However, according the city parking authority website you can buy a monthly parking pass for the garage from the city (their office is about a block from the hotel) for $65. No one at the hotel suggested that I make arrangements for parking with the city as that might be cheaper for me. I was to have nightly turndown service. That happened during my stay only 4 nights. One evening housekeeper told me that the night before when we had no turndown service she was not able to provide the service because she had been the only evening housekeeper for the whole hotel. On the plus side there are a few good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel as alternatives to the hotel restaurant. A Greek restaurant about a block from the hotel was quite good and reasonable. For the business traveler who has business in the city center or the attached convention center this hotel may be a good choice. For the leisure traveler, this hotel did not provide the outstanding level of service I expect from a Marriott hotel.

Stayed at Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square during the weekend of October 9-11, 2009. The hotel itself is gorgeous -- primarily because it's brand new. The rooms are spacious and quiet, the beds heavenly and overall, it is a decent stay. The bar is very modern and offers an impressive array of cocktails and food items. Upon check-in, however, I was not pleased. There were 3 weddings taking place that weekend and the staff seemed completely frazzled and disorganized. The line to check was literally 30-40 people long. Most of us had waited 25-30 minutes to simply check in. I expect this in Vegas or New York, but not in Lancaster, PA. In addition, the kiosk for guests to perform self check-in was down, thereby making the check-in process even more cumbersome. The line could have been cut in half had the kiosk been working. Overall, I would stay here again -- but if you're going to charge $250 a night in Lancaster, PA, you'd better "bring it" in terms of service.

We went for a short trip to Lancaster and stayed at the Mariott at Penn Square. Beautiful New hotel. My only complain was that the Shower was really bad. The water flow was so slow that you could not shower with it. The staff are all new and need experience but other than that it has great potential.

Driving into Lancaster, we could not imagine a Marriott located in the center of the city. Our past visits to "Lancaster" were not in the city proper, but out in the more touristy areas such as Strasburg. But sure enough, there is was: a brand new high rise Marriott. The front of the building was a restored storefront and houses the hotel lobby. We really enjoyed the lobby area that connected to the new convention center.

The rooms were great Marriott rooms, well appointed and comfortable. We had a king bed and a roll-a-way for son. Everything was new. The hotel was nearly sold out the first night of our stay, but it was not noisy or crowded in any way.

The hotel has a nice indoor pool and hot tub. We enjoyed use of both. There was a nice view of the city scape from the pool and I particularly enjoyed seeing some of the historic churches and other buildings from that vantage point. There was a small but functional fitness area.

Valet parking was available. Self parking was at an older city garage connected to the hotel. There is a fee for internet service which is disappointing as it should be a standard amenity.

The hotel was near the many attractions that Lancaster County is famous for. We enjoyed a show at Sight and Sound, playing a round a miniature golf, and shopping at the outlet shops -- all near by.

We will definitely stay at this hotel again. Most of the hotels in Lancaster County are what I would classify as two star or lower. This hotel gives the area a solid three star+ hotel.

Stayed here for 2 nights to close out my vacation. Location is right in the center of downtown Lancaster. If you are looking for an authentic "Pennsylvania Dutch" experience...this is not the place for you to stay. While the hotel was beautiful, I should have gone with my gut and booked my stay at the Hotel Hershey. Downtown Lancaster was a little out of the way and was about a 20 minute to, 1/2 hour drive to the Amish area where all the action seems to be. Not a bad location, just not what I was expecting. Not much to do in downtown Lancaster during the week. Saturday had the great Central Market which was well worth a look-see. We ate at the Irish Pub suggested in an earlier review, which was great...well worth a visit. For other dining, you are better off heading over to where the 2 huge outlets are located and eat there...The hotel was very new...and so was the staff. Took a while for check-in...and the valet staff was friendly but VERY inexperienced...took way too long to get out car. Hotel is connected to the Convention Center, too...so it was very busy and the lobby was VERY loud. We were in a high floor, and the room was pretty quiet. The breakfast in the restaurant was very good.
