During our visit to NJ, we took a day trip to PA. We ended up in Peddler's Village, and what a great surprise! This little town was picturesque! This is like all the quaint villages you see in the movies, but it's really there. We were very lucky that we went on a rainy day, had the place to ourselves. There are shops there for every taste. And surprisingly, reasonably priced unlike most tourist attractions. There are a couple restaurants, one with a "pub" style bar. There is also a coffee shop and several "sweet" shops. The grounds are well kept with cobblestone walkways through lush and pretty foliage. They were already decorated for Halloween, and was told that the place is really done up for Christmas. If you are looking for a family day get away or even a romantic afternoon for two...this place is great!

Peddler's Village is a shopping and eating venue that was designed to look somewhat like an old-fashioned village. There are frequent events during which the storefronts and walkways are thematiclly decorated and pop-up vendors and entertainers are located in the square (think balloon animals, magicians, musicians, seansonal food items). Ultimately, this is a shopping venue focused on "artsy" items - jewelry, hand-made crafts for decorating the home, figurines, etc. There is also a decent book-store and a number of clothing stores. There are several restaurants and a number of specialty food stores, including a candy-store with a wide variety of "old-time" candy favorites. This is a very family (and dog) friendly place and is especially good for strolling on a nice day.

The weather was not too hot but nice and sunny day. We enjoyed relaxing and slowly walking around and visiting the shops. There are flowers all around this place. Many different types of flowers and plants. There was a wedding going to take place outside in a nice grassy area but it hadn't started yet. The wedding had a uniformed guard of historicly dressed union solders with swords, and there was a man playing bagpipes.
We stopped for gelato and custard ice cream. It tasted great while we sat on benches outside and watched people strole by. We would have enjoyed the ice cream much more if it were not for the bees that kept annoying us. This is a place to kill and hour of so and just relax.

From the Outer Bridge Crossing it's only 40 minutes away.

Peddler's Village is a great Day-Trip for guys who hate shopping in the Staten Island Mall with their wife. She'll get a kick out of all the shops & you won't feel caged-in. Add the fact that the place has 3 pubs (one with large screens & the game) and you're all set.
Want to take it a step further? You can turn a shopping trip into a romantic over-night stay; talk about scoring points!
Instead of groaning when my wife says, "We're going shopping and this time you have to come." I now say, 'OK, but only if we go to Peddler's Village.' There are plenty of places to park and if we decide to rent a room we get a private parking spot designated for our room only. But since I get to & from Brooklyn in 90 minutes, we generally head-out on Saturday morning, get to Peddler's by 11:00, shop & stroll for a couple of hours, have lunch & a tap beer, load the junk into the car, shop another 2 hours and we're home in time for dinner.

Seriously, Peddler's Village is a nice day out with the wife. There are shops & strolling and snacks and if you do stay overnight, it's not expensive. You not only feel like you're in the country but you feel like it's a different time in history. It's a relaxing day.

There is a small arcade with video games, Skee ball and other games for the kids to keep busy for an hour or so. The ball Mountain is a lot of fun. Good place to go on a rainy day or in the winter.
