“Short walk to New York....”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

An interesting bridge in a beautiful area along the Delaware River. In a few minutes one can cross from Pennsylvania to New York and visa versa. This time of year it is a great sight, with the leaves changing and the river flowing south to the sea.

It is amazing to think that just 165 years ago this was an aqueduct carrying goods from the Hudson River to the Delaware River. Its like a walk back in history!

“Nice Ride”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

One of my favorite rides is from port jervis NY up Rte 97 through hawks Nest and ending up at the Roebling Bridge between Minisink Ford NY and Lackawaxen PA. The road is right along the Delaware, nice any time of the year. The bridge has been restored by the NPS so as you drive across you are actually driving on what would have been the bottom of the canal. It is amazing to realize what they built here before the civil war and the bridge is still going strong. If you are hungry or thirsty there is a nice tavern called the Lackawaxen Inn where you can grab a bite.

“Old Canal Aqueduct Restored”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

A short walk across this restored aqueduct designed by John Roebling (of Brooklyn Bridge fame), and you cross the Delaware into a different state (New York on one side, Pennsylvania on the other). The National Park Service provides an excellent program for local schoolchildren, and if they are around when you visit, they would be thrilled to give you information about the aqueduct and the D&H Canal it served many years ago. Hard to imagine it filled with water with canal boats floating across above the water! Now it is a bridge you can drive your car over.
