“Monthly RV Spot at Roamer Retreat”
Reviewed June 11, 2012

The people are nice here, I had a level spot and enjoyed my stay. Every Friday, the local Amish people come through the park and knock on your door. They sell wonderful treats like cookies, pies, fresh farm eggs and more. I would stay here again.

was here at the cabin for 2 nights and will keep coming back few times a year, its a place for couples and families, and elderly, its nice, quiet, relaxing, there are really beautiful walking paths through the farms and also a little in the woods type of path, for little kids there are swings and a built boat type where you can go inside, really great place

We stayed one night in the cabins. One other group we were staying with rented the 8 person cabin, while our group stayed in the 6 person. Both cabins were similar in layout (the 8 person had an extra "living room" while the 6 person did not). Both were very clean and new with everything you'd need (utensils, applicances, etc) We liked how each of the rooms in the cabins had doors that could close for privacy. I was pleasantly surprised that each cabin had cable tv. The sites are pretty close together, but since we were staying as 2 groups, it worked for us. Also, the kids playground is directly in front of the 8 person cabin. This might not work for some, but again, this was great for us since we had small kids and could basically grill, cookout, etc .without them wandering too far. There is also a big field where the kids could run, play ball, etc. If you are looking for a campground out in the wilderness/woods somewhere, this probably isn't the place for you...but it worked for us. Also, the campground is off a busy road, so the road noise could be undesireable (depending on the site you are at). But the cabins were far enough away and under the trees where it wasn't a problem. We would definitley go back next year.

Our experience was not commensurate with that rating. The park is the worst we have ever seen, it is not maintained at all. Our site was pure dirt, no grass, no gravel, no pad. If it had rained during our stay it would have been a big mud pit!! It was full of debris, tress limbs and leaves that we could tell had been there a long while based in how covered in dirt they all were. The hook ups were falling apart, the electrical box was actually hazardous with no protection from the elements.

Our site was about 20 feet from a major highway; the road noise ruined the whole “getting back to nature” aspect of camping.

The permanent resident RVs were filthy and not maintained.

The store was useless, minimal stock and very few items on the shelf.

There is no view of the beautiful countryside of Lancaster County, only highway and an old run down machinery museum with rusty construction equipment in the parks back yard.

If you are going to Lancaster Co PA, I recommend finding another place to stay, this was unbelievably bad.

We have camped (travel trailer) in Lancaster before but this was our first time at Roamers. The sites are pull through with full hook ups and getting in /out was easy. We did notice that the electrical box door was loose and the maintance man told us they were due for an upgrade in the electical system. It was raining so our site was quite muddy but I noticed other sites had more gravel and were not as bad. The roads are also gravel so it's hard for kids to ride their bikes. Also, though it wasn't loud, you could hear the cars going by on Route 30 from our site but the place is big enough that you could certainly request to be further away from the road. The scenery was amazing. Amish land and farms as far as you could see. We have small children and we were given a site right by the playground which is a big wooden ship and some swings and open fields to run around in. There is no pool and it is not an
"RV resort" in terms of activites and ammenities. The restrooms and showers need some updating but they were clean. There are only 2 bathrooms and 2 showers in each restroom. There are cabins for rent and our friends stayed in the one next to our RV site. It was very nice and clean. We noticed there are lots of seasonal RV's parked there. FYI the office had a few necessities but not much. In terms of location it is about a 10 minute drive to Dutch Wonderland and the outlet area. Overall if you are looking for a nice, peaceful low key place to take your RV Roamers is a great choice.

We just returned from 5 Days at Roamers Retreat and wish we had stayed longer. The campground is beautiful and the staff were all really nice. We stayed in a cabin which was nicer than we had expected. They were clean, new and had everything you needed for a great stay. The bed was even great! It also has A/C and heat. The front porch overlooks the field where Hot Air balloon rides may depart as well as the Amish farmland. Watching the Amish work their farms really adds to the experience. Around dinner time, Amish ladies stop by the cabins to see if anyone would like fresh picked vegetables or homemade pies. Nothing like a dozen fresh corn for $2 straight out of her wagon! The Cabin we stayed in slept 6, but there is a larger one there also. The kitchen had everything you would need and outside, each site has their own fire ring and charcoal grill as well as a picnic table. On the porch is a table and chairs. We spent most of the daytime driving the beautiful roads and shopping. If you like Antiquing, this is the place to be. You could literally stay for a week and not see it all. We stopped at all the small towns which were all very close by. Don't pack too much food to bring because the local markets are amazing. Amish made cheeses, fresh baked breads, and farmer's markets are everywhere. We tried to buy from the Amish Farms because they are all right there with signs outside their farms inviting you in to purchase whatever they had made that day. A sign for Ice cold homemade Root Beer is a treat, even if you don't like root beer. We bought Handmade birdhouses for $5 from a lovely Amish family and watched as they made them. Wilbur Chocolate Museum was fun as was the Sturgis Pretzel factory. The villages are all really cute to walk through. Try not to miss Shupp's Grove outdoor market on Sat. & Sundays if you like collectibles & antiques. It's really amazing. There are maps everywhere throughout Lancaster county- We did not visit Downtown Lancaster although we drove through. It was more of a city and we were in the country mode. After seeing where the other campgrounds were located and seeing their cabins, we were so happy with our choice of Roamers' Retreat. It was secluded and quiet and felt like camping without the tents. Highly recommended!
