We just had a birthday lunch for 15 at Maggiano's. The family deal was a great deal for the restaurant, but I feel like I dined on nothing but cheese and pasta for nearly 50/person after drinks (no alcohol), tip and tax for LUNCH.. The bread was nothing special, the olive oil of average quality and the pasta was a basic brand available in every grocery store. There was absolutely nothing extraordinary about any of the dishes. We had fried mozzarella, calamari, the house salad, ceasar salad, fettucini alfredo, sausage/spaghetti, chicken parm and tirimisu and cheesecake for dessert. There were more interesting sounding choices on the menu, but with such a large group, it was difficult to find common ground, so the guest of honor chose the menu. The cheese ravioli was good, but again, it was similar to what I buy in the grocery store deli case. The salads were little more than dressed lettuce. Nothing was bad, but nothing was memorable either.
The atmosphere of the place could be quite elegant, but we were jammed like sardines in the center of the main dining room. The tables were so close that we couldn't move chairs out without disturbing our neighbors. The restrooms are on the second floor and the ladies room is completely inadequate for the amount of traffic. The line was long, the whole room stank and it was quite dirty from overuse -quite an appetite killer.
I am not at all anxious to return.
