My husband and friend went here last night to try out this place. I was looking for a change in our usual Asian or Italian restaurant cuisine choices. The former Lonestar Restaurant site, Azteca has a bustling festive ambience. My friend had a resonably priced house Margarita for $7 but my hubby's $4.50 bottle of Corona Lite was overpriced. I had water and lime!
We had to wait about 20 mins for a table. Very small waiting area, basically a non existent area. Restroom was clean. Warm chips and very tasty thin salsa came to the table. We had the chicken wings appetizer, $6. barbecue sauce. Hubby liked them. I thought just so so. My friend and I ordered the same entree, Pollo Relleno: 2 thin sliced of pounded thin chick cutlets with a tasty mix of cheese, black beans, spinach, tiny bits of zucchini fresh mushrooms a d onions with some sort of creamy sauce. It was an atypical entree served there-mostly entrees were the rolled stuffed enchilada or burrito with sauces served with rice and beans. I liked choice. My husbands salad looked pathetic. Whitish lettuce, shrimp and too much chicken and very little veggies, if any, in it. He thought it was ok but he's not much of a salad person. Service at first was swift but then very slow. There were large parties there so it was understandable. Would we go back? Maybe. There aren't too many Mexican restaurant choices around here. I did call ahead earlier to make reservations but non are taken nor call ahead available on the weekends. I was told it gets busy so we got there 6-ish.
