“Wonderful seasonal menu”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

We had a wonderful meal at Sovana. We started with the cheese plate, and the server Jen gave us her recommendation of the cheese flight and it was great. For the main course my husband had the Grilled swordfish special and I had the PA trout almondine. Both were cooked perfectly. Lastly....and this is a good reason to save room...we had the apple bread pudding. It came with a side of cinnamon ice cream and it was scrumptious. I highly recommend Sovana.

“Sensational atmosphere, compelling menu, and solid performance”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

Before the weather changes be sure to hit the patio for an early dinner. They do heat it out there but it's so much better when it is an open air setting. I enjoyed Sovana twice in one week; one time for dinner and the next time for lunch. For dinner we selected a few small plate offerings which were quite competently prepared even though some of the flavors weren't as developed as I might expect from a restaurant of this caliber. I enjoyed the grilled shrimp but they lacked something I just couldn't identify... I also took a small group there for lunch this week and the food was all extremely well prepared and quite good. They had a stuffed bell pepper which my guests raved over. The service we received was nearly flawless and you can tell the servers are well trained.
It's quite a step up from some of the other dining establishments in the area but there is also an air of pretentiousness there. It seems that perhaps the management might buy in to some of their clientele's standoffish attitude (known throughout this particular area) and the reception my wife and I received was as though a particularly odious country cousin popped in unexpected. You should have seen the show they put on trying to see if they could find space for us before the first seating. It's hard to describe but you'll see when you go. The management of the place doesn't exactly impress you with their warmth but the staff works hard to make up for it. But to be fair, we weren't exactly dressed for dinner as we decided to pop in on a whim. The drinks were great, food was a solid good, and the wait staff delightful. It's worth a try for dinner but I think they are very strong at lunch.

“Consistently Great Food”
Reviewed September 22, 2013 via mobile

This is a go-to place in the Kennett Square, West Chester and Chadds Ford areas. The farm to table emphasis is evident in the taste of the food which jumps off the plate. The vegetables are always amazing. Nothing really bad to say other than that if you are looking to have an intimate dinner, be sure to ask NOT to be seated on the seating against the wall in the main dining room. The tables are too close together and it is uncomfortable to speak to your dinner companion about anything because tables on both sides of you will hear. Service is always prompt and accurate. A little pricey, but the quality of the food keeps us coming back anyway.

“Overpriced and overrated”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

Four of us went for dinner while visiting the area based upon various reviews. For a Tuesday night it was crowded and it is smart to make reservations. The good news is that the server was generally attentive and although there is a bar, they do al low BYOB (with a fee). The bad news is that the food was not very well prepared. One of our party had duck, prepared as the chef recommended, but was almost too chewy to eat. Two of us had the pasta special. The homemade fettuccine was over-cooked and the shrimp and scallops that was to be part of the dish was almost non-existent. As for the prices, you would think that the restaurant was located in a big city, not in a strip mall in the middle of nowhere. Think you can do better.
