Before the weather changes be sure to hit the patio for an early dinner. They do heat it out there but it's so much better when it is an open air setting. I enjoyed Sovana twice in one week; one time for dinner and the next time for lunch. For dinner we selected a few small plate offerings which were quite competently prepared even though some of the flavors weren't as developed as I might expect from a restaurant of this caliber. I enjoyed the grilled shrimp but they lacked something I just couldn't identify... I also took a small group there for lunch this week and the food was all extremely well prepared and quite good. They had a stuffed bell pepper which my guests raved over. The service we received was nearly flawless and you can tell the servers are well trained.
It's quite a step up from some of the other dining establishments in the area but there is also an air of pretentiousness there. It seems that perhaps the management might buy in to some of their clientele's standoffish attitude (known throughout this particular area) and the reception my wife and I received was as though a particularly odious country cousin popped in unexpected. You should have seen the show they put on trying to see if they could find space for us before the first seating. It's hard to describe but you'll see when you go. The management of the place doesn't exactly impress you with their warmth but the staff works hard to make up for it. But to be fair, we weren't exactly dressed for dinner as we decided to pop in on a whim. The drinks were great, food was a solid good, and the wait staff delightful. It's worth a try for dinner but I think they are very strong at lunch.
