Owner description: In 1906, industrialist Pierre du Pont (1870-1954) purchased a small farm near Kennett Square, PA, to save a collection of historic trees from being sold for lumber. Today, Longwood Gardens is one of the world’s great horticultural displays, encompassing 1,077 acres of dazzling gardens, woodlands, meadows, fountains, 10,010-pipe Aeolian organ and 4.5-acre conservatory. Longwood continues the mission set forth by Mr. du Pont to inspire people through excellence in garden design, horticulture, education and the performing arts, through programming that includes exhibitions, musical performances by leading artists, renowned horticulture education programs, horticulture research, environmental stewardship and community engagement.

This was our second time there, even though we live 3 hours away. We actually became members this time. The inside conservatories are amazing and you may enjoy these no matter what the weather. Most outdoor flowers were not in bloom this time of year, but the lily pods were beautiful and the trails were great to enjoy the fall foliage. My husband is handicapped and he used the motorized scooters, which made everything accesible to him. He was very impressed with the scooters. They have a new "Green Wall" which has clean, individual bathroom pods, which everyone positively commented on upon walking through. The food in the restaurant and cafetaria was delicious. We recommend this trip to all our friends and can't wait to go back.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. We had to leave before seeing some of the grounds, and thus missed the model railroad about which I'd read.
Tripods are allowed for photography. However, I was unaware until after departing that visitors' commercial use of their own photographs isn't permitted. (Perhaps exceptions can be arranged.)
Among many impressive features are synchronized fountains (which we saw in daylight, not in a colorful nighttime show) and a large tree house.

but not for smaller children and can be SUPER crowded! If you live close by it can be fun but nit worth the ride from outside the area.

One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Wow & Double Wow!!!
This is a must visit for all ages, young to old, romantic couples, and families of any size.
This is our first visit, for the display of autumn colors.
We took a slow walk, with a few breaks to take it all in, on a gorgeous fall day. Sunny & 59. We spent about 2 hours, & 30 minutes there. Beautiful cafe & restaurant too.
The wide variety of plantlife, trees, & flowers----fabulousssssssss!!! Complete tagging and identification too. Beautiful gardens & walkways with smooth surfaces. Good for carraiges & wheelchairs. We even loved the railroad trains, that the children went crazy over. The creative displays gave me many ideas for our gardens at home.
A great, fall day. Makes life good.
Can't wait to return.
