The restaurant has decent food but it is overpriced and the menu shows that it's owned by Chinese people trying to play Japanese restaurant.

The Kyoto is one of our regular lunch places. The bento boxes are excellent, and a reasonable value at $12-15. The service is great. We've never tried the sushi.

We live 10 minutes from Kyoto. Since it opened a few years ago, we've mostly used it as a takeout restaurant. As a takeout place, we've thought it was pricey for the quality, but it's the closest sushi place around. It does have a very sophisticated ambience, but we've never seen it anywhere near full, at least on weekdays when we tend to do sushi.

Recently we decided to eat in at Kyoto. On a mid-week day, the restaurant was perhaps 15% full. I sat facing the "front desk" area, and saw very little takeout traffic.

It's a BYOB and we had a very nice bottle of sake, a gift from friends. We ordered a tuna tartare appetizer to split. It was just OK -- really almost tasteless except for the wasabi sauce -- and small for one, let alone two. And $18.00.

Seaweed salad was fine. By the time our main entrees were served, we still had dirty, empty appetizer plates on the table . . . and they were still there after our entree was served and the waitress disappeared.

DH's sashimi plate was fine, nothing special. My rainbow roll was OK. I had considered one of the night's special rolls, but when I asked, the waitress conceded that the "crab" in the roll was "crab stick." For $13 for that roll, I think they should be more forthright about the ingredients.

We've had takeout on average twice a year at Kyoto. Have dined in maybe six times in three years. This most recent meal made us realize why it's just not on our "go-to" radar, even though it's so close. (We live in a semi-rural area, so 10 minutes to a restaurant is pretty darn close by our standards!)

Kyoto just isn't good enough. Not the food, not the service. Ambience is OK, but not great enough to warrant a check that amounted to $35 a head (including tip). Keeping in mind, we brought our own sake.

We've decided, after this most recent experience, we're just done with the place. We won't go back for takeout and we certainly won't go back to eat in.

Kyoto is in a small shopping mall off rte 1: not so easy to find unless you are attentive to the signs. It is definitely worth the effort: this is the most tastefully appointed dining room of local Asian restaurants, with a menu of quality and variety. Both sushi and kitchen staffs pay great attention to detail. Example: the Dragon roll is made with just temporaed shrimp and chilled eel - unlike the uni-temperature rolls on most menus. We have dined at Kyoto perhaps 30 times, and have only had one subpar dish. Both handrolls and regular rolls are very good; the fish entries are excellent, especially seabass and tuna tataki. Good range of appetizers. Attentive staff. BYOB

All the food too salty except tempura. They claim they take credit cards, but both times said there machines were broken. The waitress offered to copy the numbers down and try when the system was working. No way that was going to happen. When forced to pay cash the waitress asked for a tip, which earned her nothing. Considering we were the first to give order and lasted to get the meal. Skip this place.
