“Great fun on a hot day”

Coal Tubin' Pennsylvania
Reviewed July 8, 2013

We spent a hot day as a family floating down the river. All had fun from 8 year old, hard to please teenagers to adults. The river seemed very clean to us. Maybe the other reviewer expected a swimming pool. The scenery starting from Greenhouse park was amazing. For most of the trip you would never know you were in town. There was enough turbulence to keep it interesting. Staff were helpful and fun. Rickety bus ride up river added to the experience.

We've gone tubing several times now and have always had a wonderful time. The staff has always been great and quick to joke around. The Stoneycreek was the river of the year in 2012, this is a river that didn't support life 30 years ago due to mine drainage and pollution. In the 1980s they started cleaning things up and it's turned into the beautiful river that it is today. I've never had issues with a smell or dirtiness, it's a river for crying out loud, not evian bottled water. Sure there may be a little bit of mud at the bottom of your shoes when you're done but once again... It's a river! Seriously, when you're floating down and watching the deer and other wildlife with the beauty of our trees and mountains you wouldn't know you were anywhere near a city like Johnstown. Forget the one bad review and check this place out, you'll be glad you did.

Coal Tubin' provided a great time for my friends and I. The staff is very friendly and courteous to everyone who stops in. The river is not the cleanest, but it has gotten much better in the last few years. The atmosphere is very relaxed and laid-back, which is exactly what I was looking for on a hot, humid afternoon. The water was cool, which is a definite plus, and they staff was very good at instructing us on the specifics we needed to know before we started. I have only gone tubing with them, but would love to try the whitewater rafting the next time I get a chance.

Provided excellent service and had a great time on the river. Not sure why the previous reviewer felt the river was dirty. I found it to be the exact opposite. Day tripped in from Pittsburgh and had a wonderful experience. The scenery leaves a little to be desired but it was well worth the trip and expense.
