Owner description: Built to remove citizens from Johnstown in case of a flood, this is the world's steepest vehicular inclined plane.

Built to save lives in case of another flood, the incline now serves as a "shortcut" for the locals to get to and from town, and a tourist attraction. It's a fun trip up and down. You get a Fantastic view of the city, and can see the route the great flood took. A Must-Do in Johnstown!

Very good viewing point to get a better idea of how the flood developed. Also neat "old" technology. As you do the ride imagine bringing a horse and carriage up that hill, no wonder they build the incline.

This is a double review of the Incline and the light show at the Stone Bridge since there is no entry for the bridge and it deserves a mention.

1) The Incline was way steep. It is a 72% grade which from the ground doesn't look too bad but when you look down at it from the top it is a steep drop. The ride was a lot faster than I expected but it was fun. Be sure to look down when you get in at the car section. The floor looks like brick but is really wood blocks- very cool! The inline runs about every 15 minutes and it is a little weird that it is a tourist attraction as some people really do use it to get around. But the view is amazing. We took it at night and you could see the whole city lit up. It was very pretty.

2) The Stone Bridge- Every night when it gets dark the stone bridge has a light show that can be viewed from several nearby parks, we were at the one with the eternal flame I'm not sure of the name. But the bridge goes through a twenty minute light show of different colors and is sometimes set to music. On the night we went there was no music but it was still very pretty to see as the bridge was lit in rainbow colors. If you have a bit of time I would recommend stopping bu to see this. The bridge has its own facebook page with start times on it.

A short ride to the top - great views. Definitely worth the small fee (and senior fares are $0). There is a restaurant/cafe at the top with great views and there is a lovely neighborhood with a beautiful park for a nice walk.
