Owner description: Noted in National Geographic Traveler for its superb acoustics, the 1881 Opera House was an important stop on the old Vaudeville circuit. Today's schedule is diverse, from folk, rock, classical, and jazz. Recent renovations include a new steel roof, sound system and theater seats. Relaxed, intimate and all seats have a great view. The Opera House is located in the heart of Jim Thorpe's historic district, just a quick stroll to pubs, restaurants, lodging and shops.

They seem to have a couple of shows every weekend. If you're interested in the shows while you're in town, you'll find that the prices are modest and the venue is pleasant.

My husband and I stayed in Jim thorpe for the weekend and on a whim we got tickets to see Jeffrey Gaines at the Mauch Chunk Opera House. We had never been to this venue, nor ever heard of Jeffrey Gaines, but we love seeing all kinds of live shows so decided for $20/ticket we could not go wrong. Wow- amazing show! Jeffrey Gaines is an awesome entertainer- so cannot say enought about that- butalso the opera house is a great venue! The accoustics are amazing, the seats were very comfortable, the stage is huge for the size of the building, and all the people working were soooo friendly and welcoming! It is a decent size venue for the size of the town, and it has a nice size balcony. The ceilings are impressively high, so I guess that adds to the feeling that you are in a much larger venue. If you get a chance to see a show there - definitely worth it!

Love the variety of shows that are here (we recently saw bluegrass, celtic, and rock bands) - quality entertainment at reasonable prices.

I recently attended the Solis concert at the Opera House, my first visit. What a lovely venue! The volunteers and staff are lovely, very helpful. It's a comfortable place, small and cozy. Loved it and would love to be able to visit again.

Went to the Mauch Chunk Opera house on March 31, 2012 to see Willy Porter. Was my first time there, but thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. Quaint venue to see a show. Very friendly people associated with the venue. Highly recommend to everyone!!!!
