“A little history lesson..”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2014

The tour of the Asa Packer mansion is great. Such a beautiful house, grounds and views. It is a little slice of American history but fun. You get to see how the rich and powerful lived at a time when most of the country had a very ruff life. The family had hard times as well and the fortune was made through hard work. Was a wonderful tour and for $8.00 well worth it.

“Asa Packer was the most wealthy man in the United States at one time.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2014

First of all, many historical tours are through structures that have been re-done with modern materials over the years. The Asa Packer Mansion is 94% original, right down to the gravel wall paper in one of the hall ways. Not kidding. Mr. Packer emerged from very common roots to be the wealthiest man in the United States at one time. The tour is very interesting particularly to those who may have an interest in the Lehigh Valley Railroad or Lehigh University. Mr. Packer built the railroad and endowed the University. The tour takes about an hour and a half. Be prepared to climb many steps to get to the mansion and while inside the mansion. AND there are no public bathrooms on site, so be forewarned. If you can gather a group of 15 you can schedule a private tour. It is very reasonably priced compared to many similar attractions across the United States and there are senior citizens discounts. I am sorry to report that they now apply to me. All in all it is well worth the visit and should be a must do event when visiting Jim Thorpe.

“Do not miss this”

Great tour by a knowledgeable guide. Been there before, but go so much more information this time from tour guide Jean. She held the interest of our 6-year old for over an hour. The house is stunning and the details are amazing.

“A don't miss”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2014

The house has 95% original furnishings, a rare thing in these houses. The tourguide had so much knowledge about the house and history of the family. Great views from the house as well. Didn't expect to enjoy this tour so much. Well worth the time in a friendly gorgeous town.
