We loved this tour. We went without the kids, which is highly recommended, as it is a one-hour tour of history. A little too long for my kiddos. But it is so worth seeing. The guide gave us plenty of history on the Packer family, as well as all the contents of the home. The house and it's contents are the original from the Civil War era so it's a step back in time. And the walls are covered in carved wood or hand-painted wallpaper so everywhere you look, it's original to it's time. Great tour!

Everyone should visit the Asa Packer Mansion. The place is amazing. The history of the place is amazing. The building is amazing. To think it was built around 150 years ago and still ahead of it's time is something. Asa Packer was a self made man from nothing. Great story!!

Should see this, very interestring home of the Packer family who were railroad men of the day. It take about an hour to tour, and you will have a guide.

I agree with several other reviews, discussing the lack of facilities, parking, etc. It is definitely not a place for anyone who cannot walk up steep hills. So...after my experience, here's the scoop: Park FIRST at the train station: $3. for the whole day. Stop there and go to the bathroom, if necessary. Now, walk up the LONG hill, and then up about 50+ stairs, and you are ready to enjoy the tour. The cost is about $7-$8 per person, plus the tour guide would like a tip at the end.

For people who enjoy historical buildings and mansions, this is a GREAT place to see. There were only 3 of us on the tour (no doubt, others died of a heart attack trying to get up the hill before they made it), so we had no problem viewing all the interesting furnishings. You cannot take any pictures. It would be great if they had an actual book you could buy with each room highlighted. I guess you can buy post cards.

The borough of Jim Thorpe is a cute place to visit; however, it too, is not very handcicapped accessible...if you need a wheel chair, scooter, or stroller; it's probably best to just skip this place.

We parked for 2 hours at a meter. Walked the first and climbed the STEEP hill (read mountain) to the front porch. Waited til doors opened at 11:00 and paid. Waited. Asked to use the ladies room. There is none. You must walk down the hill to the County Court House and go through a metal detector and a nice policeman to use theirs. But, the meter ran out, as the tour is an hour and doesn't start at 11:00 or even at 11:15, when we left! On the outside: looked like an average old mansion museum. Saw the silver display: small. A disappointment. Maybe the ad could give more details re: length of visit and parking problems. The lot was $5, so not worth it. Workers were nice and understanding. Not their fault.
