“Our last hurrah of summer!”
Reviewed August 23, 2014

This was our family of five's last hurrah of summer before school and it was a great way to end it! Our scheduled arrival time was 9:45 and we were running late, but we shouldn't have worried because there was a lot of waiting around before we actually boarded the buses. My 11 year old was a bit nervous about the trip, but our goofy guides, Kayla and Mike quickly put her at ease with their cheesy jokes! Their back and forth banter made the bus ride tolerable and kept us all laughing. For some reason, we had to eat lunch before we even launched on the river at 11 am. The trip was lots of laughs, getting hung up on rocks and watching some real jokers dousing each other and everyone else with bucketfuls! Very scenic and a perfect introduction for our family to rafting on a river with gentle rapids.

“Very little whitewater but fun family day”
Reviewed August 21, 2014 via mobile

We enjoyed paddling the river and battling water fights with other rafts. However it was clear that the trip was a very abbreviated version due to water conditions. We should have been told this before paying full price. We actually were told we had to have lunch first instead of stopping part way through our trip so we had hotdogs and potato salad at 1045! If we didn't stop so often to swim around we could have done the trip in about an hour.

We felt a little gipped.

“Great Thrill”
Reviewed August 21, 2014

Awesome experience.. 12 miles, 5 hrs, almost 17 rapids of class II and III... great guides.. fabulous friends.. good climate and nice water. What else you can ask for..

But few things to note - Even though i say guide, its not like each raft has one.. there are only 3 of them for the entire pack.. One lead the way.. One stays in between and last one sweeper with collect all leftovers.. including paddles and bodies ;-)

Its doesnt seem too dangerous but too many rocks.

But thats what a adventure ride is all about. So get out there and have some fun.

“Pocono Whitewater - Lehigh River outfitters”
Reviewed August 20, 2014

The Lehigh River Gorge is a great Class II-III whitewater adventure. The trip is about 12 miles and takes about 5 hours on the river. My family and I have done the river trip previously but this was our first experience with Pocono Whitewater Outfitters. Compared with other outfitters, this company really fell short.

First, the put-in. Normally (at least with other locations and other rafting companies) the bus drops you at a staging area and you get into the raft which is alongside the river. Not so in this case; we had to walk about 1/3 mile through the woods, then paddle down a small creek and push the raft down a log incline. Not the best start, to say the least.

This operator put far too many boats out (about 30) at one time. Worse, the guides failed to space the rafts out properly so that there were numerous avoidable, and dangerous, collisions. Even when a rafter was in danger, the guides were slow to react and ineffective at best. This is not an outfitter with which I would trust my safety and well being in the future.

While other raft outfitters provide a hot shower and snack (e.g. hot dogs) at the end of the run, PWO did not. There was food for purchase at inflated prices, which I felt was a ripoff.

There are other excellent outfitters in the Jim Thorpe area - for instance, Jim Thorpe Rafting (which I've used in the past) and Whitewater Challengers (which I have not tried), and some others. Try them instead.

“super fun!”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

The experience was excellent. You don't have to be a swimmer since everyone gets a life vest. The staff is wonderful. You also get to enjoy the scenery. If you don't like to get wet this is not for you. People bring their water guns to make sure you get wet. No experience necessary although it is helpful.
