“The perfect weekend!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2014

The perfect weekend started with a late Friday arrival after a long work week. Our hostess greeted us, showed us to our very comfortable room, and we unwound on the airy front porch with drinks. An early booking for rafting prevented us from enjoying breakfast, but Pat, out hostess, had provided pastries, and the coffee was just outside our room. An excellent rafting experience ( two thumbs up to Jerry and his professional guides at Jim Thorpe whitewater rafting) was followed by the scenic train ride through the gorge. A walk around this very quaint town was followed by a burger and a brew and then off to bed. Sunday started with more breakfast then we could managed, expertly prepared by Pat and her friendly staff. This fueled us for a 30 mile bike ride along the trail next to the river. Unfortunately we didn't have time to try out any of the several 4 star restaurants. Sadly, it was time to leave for home, tired but refreshed. We will be back!!!

Stopped for a beer on the porch and took a self-guided tour. Appeared to be very original. I think staying here would allow you to immerse yourself in the entire time. Assume tofu this areas heyday

“Lovely patio”

The best part about the mansion is the patio overlooking Jim Thorpe, order a bottle of wine, some cheese and you can't go wrong.

“Ghost Talk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2014

Went inside to listen to a Ghost Talk presented by the Rotary Club. Fun way to spend the afternoon, in the summer they take you on a Ghost Walk of the town.

“A Step Back in Time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

If you ever visit Jim Thorpe, PA (formerly Mauch Chunk), be sure to put a visit to the Harry Packer Mansion at the top of your list. The stately home is set high atop a hill that once was the premier location for the wealthy families in that area. It is a bit of a hike, but well-worth the effort. If you're not in to walking, have someone drop you off at the mansion. Either way, you will not be disappointed when you take the tour. From the friendly, family-run staff, to the beautiful decor within the home & the amazing view from the front veranda, it is truly something not to be missed. Why should you visit? Well, first and foremost it gives you a chance to step back into history to see how some of the wealthy families of America lived during the Victorian & Edwardian eras. Harry Packer was the son of Asa Packer, the wealthy industrialist, philanthropist, & entrepreneur, whose former home is also open for tours next door. Asa Packer was not only a member of the U.S. Congress at one time, but was also in the running for the Democratic Party's Presidential nomination in 1868. He built a beautiful home for his son & heir, adjacent to his home on "Packer Hill" as it was called, and it is truly fortunate that their homes still survive today in remarkable condition. If you visit the Harry Packer Mansion, you will get to see the great lifestyle the Packer family grew accustomed too. Asa was born of humble origins, but pulled himself and his family up to become one of the wealthiest families in America at the time. Sadly, Harry Packer died in his early thirties, and did get to enjoy the perks of being the heir for very long, leaving the family fortune for his sister, Mary Packer Cummings, who was the last surviving direct descendent. If you love history, architecture, or just beautiful homes, this is a place not to be missed.
