“A Big Disappointment”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

My wife and I have stayed at this hotel on many previous occasions and have always been quite happy with our experiences.

Well not this time. From the moment we pulled into the car park the experience started to turn sour. Firstly, we had no idea that the hotel was having major renovations (there was no evidence when we last stayed here in October and nothing on Accor’s website). The hotel entrance had been moved to a side door and this rather took us aback. Once inside this temporary lobby (which was completely windowless and covered in black plastic) we were met by a line of 50 Indonesian students which the harried staff were frantically trying to check in. Needless to say that they were somewhat stressed out and quite surly and unwelcoming to us.

The unsmiling check in agent gave us a room on a low floor directly above a building site, despite my request for a room on a higher floor facing Botany Bay and the Airport (which is what we usually receive). I have been an Accor Club member for quite a while and have never been treated so dismissively before. Arguing with this person would have been quite counterproductive in my opinion, given her apparent stressed out condition, so we just reluctantly settled into the poor room that we were given. The room itself was dingy and desperately in need of renovation, with peeling woodwork and threadbare carpets to mention but a couple of the issues.

We deeply regretted having prepaid for two nights, as we otherwise would just have walked out and stayed somewhere else. We won’t be booking here again until the building work has been completed and maybe not ever again.

We really do feel that Accor should have organized this renovation much better, and we would strongly recommend that prospective guests take the inconveniences, noise and dust into account before making a booking.

Room Tip: At the moment there aren't any good rooms.

Easy to get too for both International and Domestic Airports. Professional and friendly staff. Under renovations at the moment but this does not take from the professionalism of staff or the nice clean rooms along with the hotel restaurant which offers good food.

We stayed at this hotel the night before our departure from Sydney. We got there early, and were checked-in at about 10.30 am without any hassle. Our request for an upgrade was met with no hesitation and despite the very busy period (it was New Year Day and there was a long queue at reception), the receptionists were very professional and friendly. Easily the best among all four other Accor hotels we stayed in while in Sydney.

Room was large, clean and very comfortable. While the hotel is near the airport, and you can see planes taking off / landing, it was very well insulated and quiet. The hotel was under renovation, but it wasn't a problem at all for us. Maybe because it was New Year Day and no work was being done, we hardly noticed any noise.

Lunch at the restaurant was good. The waitress (can't remember her name) was very polite and hospitable - again a rarity in Sydney.

Being an airport hotel, however, it's FAR from everything. That said, I'd be back again if I need to stay near the airport.

Stayed here for one night with 2 family members who were seeing me off before my long haul flight. We picked this place as it was the closest hotel to the airport that had 3 beds in one room.
The room was good, a little pricey, but it was clean, comfortable and quite adequate for one night.
The only one negative of the stay was the attitude of the Barman. Working in hospitality management for over 10 years myself I admit I am a little bit OCD when it comes to service and how staff interact with customers. The Barman seemed to be very chatty and friendly with other guests but when we ordered it really did seem to be putting him out to serve us. He came across as being very indifferent about the whole process. So much so our drink order was not even paid attention to, we ordered 3 drinks and somehow ended up with 4. This one person really did spoil the whole stay for me, albeit a few minutes of unpleasant and uncomfortable interaction. All customers should be treated equally but I won't let this one person decide my overall rating for an otherwise satisfactory hotel.
We had dinner in the restaurant and it was quite good, no complaints.
The shuttle to the airport in the morning was complimentary and very quick!! a few minutes at most!
A good choice for something close to the aiport, perhaps a little more pricey than others, but good...just beware the bartender..lol

Have stayed twice now hotel was clean and the room had everything you need for a overnight stay when you have a early flight, one think that I not happy with is that they never offer help with bags if you don't get a trolley yourself well you would never get bags to you room. The reception staff are friendly the resturant staff I had to find someone to take my order the meal was good it came quickly.

We enjoyed our overall stay and room looking towards airport. Double glazing meant no aircraft or traffic noise so was a good stay. Rooms starting to look tired?
The breakfast was great and an incredible pancake making machine!
The hotel is under some renovations so entry, bar, reception, lounge etc we're a little noisy but did not disturb our stay much.
Lovely park across the road that led onto Woolwoths supermarket.
Would stay here again as the staff were terrific.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing airport. Great views of planes arriving and departing.

The hotel is being refurbished which is not noted on website giving the impression of checking into a building site. The bathroom was old with mould on ceiling, a leaking sink waste and no plug in bath. The bed had a cockroach in it and while the room was superficially clean I moved the bedside table looking for a power socket to find years of dirt and building debris from cable installation. The staff were helpful when presented with the issues and comped us a breakfast. The issue is we choose the hotel over other cheaper ones on the area for perceived quality but it is not a $300 plus a night hotel at present. Maybe when the refurbishment is complete. For comparison we flew back to Australia from Manchester airport and stayed in a similar room at the Hilton for less than $140
