We have not a single compliant about this beautiful tranquil oasis in the hunter! If you like luxurious with a breathtaking view of the valley this retreat will tick that box! With plentiful breakfast provisions and a jet spa with a bay window overlooking the hunter in the earth song pavillion you won't want to leave. It might be a few extra kms from the centre of the hunter but it's exactly what you want to return to at the end of a long day of wine tasting!! Would definitely return here and would highly recommend this romantic getaway for any couple.

After a long flight from the UK, and sight seeing in Brisbane and Sydney we were ready for some peace and tranquillity! Wild Edge did not disappoint.
After a warm welcome from Alan we were shown to our pavilion set in a fantastic location overlooking a valley, the view was all we could wish for and more. The pavilion its self was superb, the attention to detail was fantastic, and the kitchen area had all we needed for a great breakfast. If you are a tea fan you wont be disappointed as they have every tea you can think of and the outside space was perfect for cooking the steak platter we had pre-ordered.

We both agreed the bed was the most comfortable we had slept in on the whole trip, and the bathroom was to die for, a superb spa bath overlooking the valley, double wash basins and fantastic walk in shower complete with dressing gowns for lazing on the outside double bed.
Our trip was made extra special by all the wild life, Kangaroos, Iguanas Kookaburras and black and red tailed Cockatoos.

If you want peace, tranquillity and perfect accommodation this is the place for you. Oh and don’t forget to pop into Wollombi for a great flat white coffee and a cake! Opposite the post office.

We were at the property last weekend and as much as we enjoyed the weekend with the fantastic views, the tranquility and the romance of the villa, I do think that they are somewhat overpriced. I am in the travel industry and have spent a lot of money visiting properties for future travel plans for groups and there are a lot of other places that offer more value for money. We were quite disturbed on arrival that more or less the first thing they discussed was payment for the 2nd night, so once that was out of the way we then were transferred by buggy to our villa. This was indeed quite spacious and comfortable. However, the owner was rushing through the details of how to operate certain items that when we came to play a dvd/cd, we could not get it to work, we were told that if we missed something he said, just go to the compendium and it tells you what to do there. This tells you to put the dvd into the system, press a few buttons, just like you do at home! All players are different and so as not to spoil our weekend, we did not put this on at all as it was just too frustrating. It was quite a warm weekend so naturally put the one and only air conditioner on, but it took so long for the room to cool down as the villa has a wall separating the hallway to the bedroom. We were going to turn the air conditioner off in the evening as we do not like to sleep in air conditioning and leave the sliding doors and windows open, however, they are not screened, and as you are in the bush, animals and insects would wander in at night time, especially mosquitoes! I went home with enough bites, it was not funny. We had planned on having a bbq the 2nd night, however, even though it is advertised as having a bbq on the deck, it is really only a hot plate and to cook steaks the temperature needs to be very hot, so consequently cooked the steaks in the electric frypan, which was another disappointing aspect for us. We booked a villa with a pool and as it was a hot weekend we were very thankful that we did. There was a day bed in the pool area, however, no speakers so you could not play any music whilst relaxing in the pool or even having pre dinner drinks on the pool patio, which was also disappointing as we like to listen to music. On the day of our departure, we received a phone call from the owner asking what time would we liked to be picked up from our villa to check out! We knew that it was a 10.30am checkout (far too early) but to call us 1hr earlier was, we thought, too early and thought it incredible that they would do this. We just said 10.30am would be fine, thankyou. You cannot check in until 2.00pm and it does not take that long to clean up a villa that you have to leave spotless otherwise they will bill you $100 for making a mess. I asked them to come in to inspect the villa before we checked out so that they agreed that the villa was spotless. I said I did not want to receive any surprises on my return to Sydney with a bill in the mail. They were not flexible at all about check in or check out and at $690 per night I think they could have been somewhat friendlier. If you do not want to spend your weekend with large goannas, then this is not the place for you as we had a goanna outside our villa the whole time we were there, kept looking up at us, probably to throw some food to it, but we did not want to encourage it. I would not recommend this property to anybody and even though we had a relaxing, memorable time at the property, would not return, there are too many variables that we were not happy about. We were still happy that we experienced this property as we did have a relaxing and very enjoyable time, there are just a few things that need tweaking.

Room Tip: Villas with pools are a must in this location as it gets very hot in summer.

They say you can never please some people and those people stayed with us last week!

From the moment they walked into Reception, before I could even welcome them to the Retreat, the complaints began. Clearly these guests were never going to be happy and we were right!

The Retreat offers unique accommodation in a unique location for couples only, not the discount group booking market these guests are familiar with.
Our terms and conditions (as is the case with most accommodation establishments) clearly state that the balance of payment for the accommodation is payable upon check in, yet this couple seemed to struggle with the balance owing.
As noted by these guests, our Pavilions are meticulously clean and to achieve this we spend at least 3 hours servicing each one after guests have checked out. This couple wanted a noon check in and a noon check out, and as we had bookings on either side of theirs, this was not possible and despite their insistence that they would arrive at 2:00pm promptly, they finally arrived at 4:20pm.
For someone who claims to be in the travel industry (she arranges accommodation and meetings for a Sydney based company) but is not a licensed travel agent, there is a marked level of ignorance as to how the accommodation industry works, including the need to balance showing people to their Pavilion and becoming overly intrusive.

To address some of the points made:

She claims we are overpriced, but does not give an example of other accommodation of a similar standard within Australia where you can have your own private Pavilion with its own pool for a lesser cost – that’s because there probably are none. On average our tariffs are 30% less than other properties that offer a similar standard.

Fact: The operation of the audio/visual equipment was explained, and yes, guests are informed that full operation instructions are available in the Pavilions compendium. What she failed to mention was that guests are also informed that if they do have any difficulties to please contact reception and we will be happy to assist.

Fact: The air-conditioning unit in our open plan Pavilions is the largest one available and is more than capable of cooling the space. Naturally, if the system is running and the sliding doors are open (as we observed theirs were) it isn’t effective. We also noticed after they had left that the system had only been operating on low. Perhaps this too was a challenge to operate.

Fact: Due to our unique location fire regulations do not permit us to have a BBQ with a naked flame, so we have to use electric. The electric frypan and the electric BBQ both have the same wattage.

Fact: We are a Private Retreat for our guests not a Resort. We, nor most other guests, want to be forced to listen to other people’s music resounding around the Retreat. We promote peace and tranquillity.

Fact: On their day of departure they were given a courtesy call at 9:50am and asked if, when they were ready to leave, they would like a buggy transfer. Being an elderly couple, we didn’t want them to feel they had to struggle with luggage. They seemed grateful at the time but obviously this was not the case.

Fact: We do ask guests to please leave their Pavilion in a reasonably tidy condition on check out. We certainly do not expect it to be immaculate, as this couple have inferred. Nor was their Pavilion left spotless as she claims.

Fact: We are an Australian Retreat, located in the Australian Bush. We do have, and are thankful we do have, many native and endangered species living in and around our property. This does include the odd Goanna, but due to the elevated design of our Pavilions, they, and all wildlife (with the exception of the odd Possum!), cannot get any closer than several meters below the outside deck.

I did have to smile when I saw they had chosen the name ‘omelette’ as their profile name. It kind of sums them up. Very mixed up and flat.

I recently spent a peaceful weekend with my partner in this beautiful place. Alan's friendly welcome was appreciated and the service provided over the weekend was unassuming, unobtrusive and professional. What a location! Four pavilions are perched on the ridge with views down into the valleys on either side. Raised walkways lead from the carpark to the pavilions and pass newly planted native gardens. Birdsong and frog croaks abound! Lazing on the day bed and swimming in our private infinity edge pool with magnificent, expansive valley views in front of us was extraordinary. Our room was beautifully appointed with a full kitchen and a spa bath with windows that fold back to let you take in the 180 degree view. Heaven. We don't often spend big on ourselves but this luxurious weekend was well worth it. We felt like we had been away for much longer than a weekend! We'll be back.

Room Tip: Wind Spirit is the pavilion with the infinity edge pool....beautiful.

We stayed in the natures mist pavilion over the weekend and were stunned at how incredible it was ! The online photos do not do this retreat any justice, and do need to be experienced to be able to witness the peacefulness, privacy and quality of the pavilions. Everything is well thought out by the owners and every attention to detail has been covered. The spa has incredible views of the valley as does the private pool and king size outdoor day bed. We could picture ourselves staying there forever ! We loved everything about Wild Edge Retreat and Alan was very welcoming and more then happy to help with any requests.
We will definately be returning !
