We were there approx 6 years ago and there has not been a lot of change, however we still enjoyed our day there, particularly the demo with the bullock teams.

What a way to see the laborious, patient and enduring relationship between the master and his bullock team as he demonstrated how the team would haul a load of timber to its destination! This activity gives an insight to the role and importance of the bullock teams in the pioneering days of Wauchope and is well worth the time to stop, observe and ponder.

Timbertown is steadily rebuilding with the aim of surpassing its glory days. It was not as good as I remember from my childhood visit in about 1981, as a lot of the programs such as the lolly making demonstrations, school lessons, and day to day life portrayed by role playing volunteers in the houses and shops had gone. We arrived on a quiet day and the bullocky, train driver, saw mill engineer, farrier, wine maker and other staff were very friendly and took the time to speak with us in as much detail as we wanted about their crafts. They also spoke very positively about the future of Timbertown and showed great affinity for their Timbertown "family".
Highlights were the steam locomotive (of course) and I was just as excited to ride it as I was as child, and I enjoyed sharing that delight with my own children. Craig the bullocky is a genuine bullocky who still operates his business outside of Timbertown. His knowledge of bullock driving, horses and Timbertown is astounding. The wines are worth tasting and we bought a few. The engine driver gave us extra rides on the mini-rail because it was a quiet day and the children loved the new playground. Unfortunately the lolly shop didn't even try to stay in the 1880 - 1910 period, though my young son didn't even notice! This was a shame as it belied the great work everywhere else at Timbertown, in keeping as genuine to the 1880-1910 period as possible, within WHS restrictions.

We have been to many 'heritage' attractions and this is unique because of its focus on the timber industry. The characters, such as Craig the bullocky, are larger than life and add a genuine feel and humour to the place. The bullock team display was certainly a highlight for us and worth the visit. It is such and authentic experience that we recommend it for for fun and education for kids of all ages.

Having just spent a week visiting the Worlds on the Gold Coast, I can honestly say Timbertown was the best day of our holiday! It was a complete trip down memory lane for me, many great visits here as a kid. It was sad to see it about 12 years ago, wasn't looking too good then. So I was nearly moved to tears to see it so well-looked after and loved again. The grounds were as neat and well-groomed as it's possible to be with Australian bushlands. Every person we spoke to was friendly and knowledgable. We love to buy local and handmade when we visit places, so we stocked up on some crafts from the gallery, some wine and non-alcoholic drinks, and icecreams and lollies. We had lunch in the cafe (delicious home made pies, huge sausage sandwiches, etc) and thought it delicious and good value for money. Having just spent a fortune in the Gold Coast, we thought the entry fee was excellent value considering how long we spent in the park and how much hands-on fun we had. We fed the ducks and geese, patted the horse, had a go at cross-cut sawing, rode in the horse-drawn cart, played with a heap of hand-made wooden toys, taste-tested wine, rode on the steam train, had a go at whip cracking, and watched the most amazing bullock team and driver. So many Australian skills and traditions are being lost, and we loved the passion of all the people at Timbertown trying to keep these things alive. I was so pleased to see there are plans for further expansion, and we will visit for sure. Thank you so much for a fantastic day - we made some great memories at Timbertown.
