The ridge walk to Charlottes pass must be one of the pretiest in Australia, However it is long and on a hot day you know you have been on a trek

It was a life long ambition to climb to the summit of Mount Kosciusko. The scenery on the way to the top is both spectacular and breathtaking and changing constantly. The walk to the top is not overly hard but you need to be aware that it is a 13 klm return trip on mainly raised metal walkways. Be prepared as conditions change rapidly even in the summer. We enjoyed it so much we did the walk again the next day with even better views and conditions as the first time there were 100 KLM winds but we were determined not to let that stop us. It is a must do as words can't describe the sheer beauty of this place.

We hiked the Main Range track (11km) and then the Summit track (9km) back down, starting from Charlottes Pass.

A very tiring day out for the legs, but what kept us going were the amazing views. This was the 2nd time doing the walk, but this time in late December, where there were still sheets of ice frozen on the side of the mountains! Great to see the wildflowers in bloom, and the lakes shining blue in the sun.

Be prepared with appropriate clothing (since it can get cold and windy and change in the afternoon), and of course some water. And a camera!

We frequently visit Thredbo, but have not stayed for a few years. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment at Thredbo Alpine Apartments for 3 nights for New Year's Eve. What a great decision we made! The apartments have everything you need. We had a verandah with wonderful views straight up the mountains, and directly opposite the bobsled. With a full day pass you can play golf, go up the chairlift, 3 bobsled rides , play tennis and finish off with a dip at the leisure centre. What a place.... Don't just stay in Thredbo though. Head further south along the alpine way for about half an hour and visit Tom Groggan Reserve. Kangaroos everywhere, and they just sit and look AT YOU. If there are not many people around and you just sit quietly, they will jump right up to you and check you out. Turn right once in the park and paddle or swim in the river, it is beautiful. If you are after a longer drive (about another 40 klms) drive through to Khancoban. It is a true oasis in the middle of the alpine region. Great dam for water skiing and jet skiing, and great river for fishing. Stop at Scammel lookout on the way for spectacular views of the mountains, and see the destruction caused by bush fires in 2003. All in all, there is so much to see in Thredbo, but make sure you venture further afield. Just love this place and the countryside, SEE IT,,,,
