“Great location”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

We stayed here recently in a family suite. Originally we booked a triple share room, and when we got to the room they had 2 single beds and forgot the extra bed. That was fine and no drama at all, however I was concerned as to where that third bed was going to go as the room was small. So we ended up upgrading to the 2 bedroom family suite which is on the top floor. One room had 3 single beds, a bathroom and a small kitchenette area and the other room had a double bed and also a bathroom. Great for families or a group of friends. We also had a small balcony which was great to watch the fireworks from (direct view). They only have 2 of these 2 bedroom family suites - our friends had the other one. Both of the family suites face out to the mountains so it is a great view.

There is limited parking onsite, so I guess first in best dressed. But it was handy to know you could park around 10 cars there onsite.

They only had the tapas bar open - the restaurant opens a little later in the ski season. The tapas bar had a few different options for dinner, however we got the kids a snack there and then went elsewhere. The bar is very busy, it really seems like the place to be.

Friends of ours stayed here 2 years earlier, and we met them there for dinner at the Tapas bar, so this time we decided to stay here instead. It is in a great location, about 200m to the Village Square and cafes/restaurants.

My only complaint would be that the heating is on timers. So overnight they go on for about an hour and then off again for about 45 minutes - so we were told. In our room, they certainly weren't on and when it got to -7 degrees it was cold in those rooms overnight. They did have portable heaters which helped a little but not that much. We ended up with 3 doonas on the beds to keep warm.

Stayed at Burnties, just after opening weekend. The staff are lovely and helpful. My wife had an eye fillet steak and I had a sirloin for dinner one night. I must stay both steaks were cooked perfectly to our requirements medium rare, both of us agreed the steaks were probably as good as we have had anywhere. If you are looking for a steak for dinner this is the place to go. Apart from the restuarant a tapis bar is opening shortly and we look forward to trying the menu there. Highly recommend.

Chris

This is the noisiest hotel I've ever stayed in my memories. The noise is not because the place is old without any proper accoustic. You can hear your neigbours (next door & upstairs) talking, going to toiletS. It has a bar downstairs which operates late past mid night. One night in our stay, the loud music from the bar kept us awake till 2.30 in the morning. We wonder if this is legal hour for them to keep the bar open and loud music till early morning.

Definitely one of the best ski holidays we have had. Amazing staff, fantastic food and the best bar in Thredbo. The hosts are real characters and make you feel welcome from the moment you step in the door until your last drink at the atmosphere-packed bar. The rooms are smallish but nicely appointed and carparking is OK. The restaurant has a great menu and comprehensive wine list and seemed to be the busiest place in the village. I would defienitely recommend this lodge to anyone and have already booked in for 2010.

Berntis is very well situated in the heart of Thredbo Village just a 50m short walk from the 'Town Mall'. The lodge has family rooms as well as hotel style rooms to choose from. My husband and I had one of these rooms that was on the opposite side of the building to the ski slopes so the view was non existant. The room was clean but the lighting was poor. The curtains didn't have a sheer so they were either open so everyone could see in or only just shut (not too much material). The heating and the hot water seemed to be centrally controlled and only on from around 6pm - 8am. If you came back in the middle of the day from the slopes and wanted a hot shower you had to wait until around 6pm for the hot water to come through.
The food here was excellent - hats off to the chef. Expect to pay around $35 for a main meal with an extra $7 -$10 for side dishes. Having said that this is the going price for most meals on the mountain unless you hit the Pizza Bar or the Pub. It was one of the best steaks I have ever had. The atmosphere though was horrible. We ate on the night that the female owner was entertaining friends and her language and drunken comments were appalling. It was because of this we didn't eat there again. We found out when we left that she only works in the evening on a few nights a week. Check when they are before you book because for around a $100+ for a meal for two you want to enjoy it. It would be a shame for people not to experience the magnificent food because of this.
Overall a decent place to stay mainly because of location. With so many other places to try on the mountain I can't say we would be rushing back to this one. Expect to pay around $200 per night for a double room.
