We booked online last minute because of the fantastic snow and were not disappointed. The rooms were well maintained and clean, we had a well cooked and plentiful breakfast. The staff were very friendly, the cost was a bit more than we usually pay but it was last minute booking. We ate at the Thai restaurant twice good tasty food the kitchen staff were particularly friendly and gave good service. We had a grata week.

The lodge was very comfortable, albeit a little small. The staff were very friendly and happy to help with tips for where to eat etc. in the village. The lodge is well positioned and within walking distance to the Kosciuszko Mountain express and Snowgums chairlifts, as well as many restaurants in the village. The cooked breakfast in the morning was substantial and delicious!

With over 20 years experience skiing at Thredbo and staying in a wide range of accommodation types our stay at Alpenhorn was easily the worst. It is so far below anything we ever encountered at Thredbo or any ski resort in the world.

We had made a last minute decision to go skiing with genuine top to bottom snow. As it was school holidays the village was heavily booked. With limited choice we settled on Alpenhorn mainly due to location. The price of $460 a night was expensive but we realised that accommodation was tight and we were booking last minute. We settled for one night and arrived there at 5pm

The woman at the front desk clearly the manager was rude and surly and made it clear that we were getting the smallest possible room - as quote 'there were only two of us' there was a clearly a larger room available we actually saw her start to give us the key to the larger before changing her mind and settling on the smaller room . At 5pm with little chance of a larger party arriving and despite paying the highest possible rate this seemed unreasonable but we could not be bothered complaining . We asked a couple of friendly questions which were responded to by grunts and when we went to speak we were just cut off and talked over and made to feel that we were lucky to be allowed to stay there.

Once we had our key we headed up to the room as quickly as we could keen to get away from the extremely bad vibe and hoping at least we would have a basic but decent room We opened the door and and found a 'room' that was tiny, dingy, dirty and run down. It was so small it was hard to have two people in there at the same time. As soon as we could we got out of there and went out for the evening The next morning the breakfast buffet was awful complete with cold watery scrambled eggs. The other guests there looked miserable. In fairness and to try to give a balanced review the kitchen staff were friendly and the only bright spot in the place.

In short - Alpenhorn took advantage of peak demand to charge a rip off price for a tiny dingy room for two people that would have been considered small for one person. That in itself would have been possible to deal with but when added to that the rude unhelpful and just plain nasty attitude of the manager it was all too much and we have been forced to write this review.

Writing a review like this is not something we enjoy doing as professional travellers but this was so bad we want to try to save other people from this experience. No matter how tight accommodation is in Thredbo you need to find somewhere, anywhere but this place.

We do understand that last minute booking in a peak time is a risk and you have to be more accepting of higher prices and lower standards but this was unnacceptable,

The next day we rang Berntis and had a completely different experience. A warm and friendly welcome and a great price $240, room was ready straight away and we could put our luggage in the room and head out on the slopes. The holiday was saved by Berntis, All it takes is a friendly attitude and fair pricing and you will build a loyal following. I doubt Alpenhorn could care less if they have regular customers they are just out to get what they can. AWFUL

Room Tip: Best to get a room somewhere else

I booked four months in advance and paid 20% more than those who booked at the last minute. Felt cheated when I was then relegated to a small cramped room at the furtherest point at the very back of the lodge. When I complained, the staff organised a move to a still small but well appointed room with a great view, with a bottle of wine thrown in. Very helpful and proactive staff.

Room Tip: Room 6 a very small cozy double, but spectacular views, well appointed and very warm.

I stayed here with my wife and two kids. We loved the fact that it was just a stroll away from the town center. It is very cosy, very clean, great staff, child friendly (almost the whole hotel had kids), great to watch Saturday fireworks from top level living area.

We were one of 3 couples who recently spent 4 days in thredbo village. The alpenhorn was our "base" for this trip and did not disappoint. Very conveniently located for local activity and not far from parking for other daily excursions. Friendly (and professional) staff to whom nothing was a trouble. Highly recommend. bob munro.

Room Tip: Run the request past the staff.

Self drove so locating this property on GPS was easy. Unfortunately no parking at lodge. Had to drive off to a car park & walked hundreds of meters back in the cold everyday!
Good location with only a short walk to ski lifts.
Thredbo town is small so everywhere is within walking distantly.
Great service staff. Efficient & friendly. Chatty & personal. Greatest assets.
3 star property. Small beds. Small room. Small toilet. Small everything.
No servicing of rooms, except change of towels & clearing if trash upon requests.
Wifi available on request.
Simple buffet breakfast spread.
Smelly drying room.

Room Tip: Lower floor means no climbing of stairs. Easier.
