“A Memorable Stay in a truly charming Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2010

We received a warm welcome in a friendly relaxed atmosphere amid charm and tranquillity. The staff were excellent...... going above and beyond the service we required. "Nothing was any trouble to them"....polite and eager to ensure our comfort and value for money.

Our stay was comfortable and pleasant in a queen ensuite room that we found to be spotlessly clean and decorated tastefully with great views of the wonderful gardens.

The gardens provided a haven in which to stroll and relax while reflecting on the grandeur and the era in which the Manor was built.
We enjoyed a romantic weekend at Fountaindale that we highly recommend to other couples looking for that special place to unwind and enjoy the location.

Visited two weks ago for a wedding. Grounds OK - building needs to be demolished. $155 for a heritage room - 2 single beds, 1 cake of soap and 1 handbasin with no running water. No chair, no wardrobe, no bedside tables. Bathrooms disgusting - dirty, no water pressure, no toilet paper. Having a shower impossible. I'm sure that even the worst backpacker's would be better. Service virtually non-existant and food (what little there was) inedible.

For this particular weekend, the whole manor was booked out for the wedding ceremony, reception and wedding guest's accommodation.
It turned out to be the wildest wedding ever, with holes kicked in walls, plumbing fixtures torn down, guests kicking in locked doors and putting holes in ceiling cavities, waterfights with fire hoses in corridors, and finally in the wee hours of the monrings a clever guest decided to turn off the water mains. This resulted in no water for early morning showers, as the problem wasn't discovered until guests complained about the lack of water. Once made aware that it was one of their "friends" that turned the mains off, people were much more forgiving.
Thousands of dollars damaged were sustained, much to the dismay and disappointment of the happy bride and groom. In short, a disaster that no one could have predicted.
It is sad how a few troublemakers can ruin it for everyone.

We arrived after the hotel reception had closed (6pm). The rooms was large but very basic. There was a clump of black hair in the shower drain. We were lucky enough to be in a room that had a television, but unfortunately one side of the screen was green. The second night we stayed there was a wedding on downstairs. Our friends staying on the floor below couldn't sleep because of the noise of the music. We were awoken at 1pm by wedding guests in the adjoining room having a loud drunken argument. We then listened in horror as the man vomited repeatedly. There was only a thin wooden door separating our rooms and we could hear EVERYTHING.
We would definitely NOT recommend this hotel. We would have had a better sleep at a youth hostel. (and it wouldn't have cost us $180)

My 14 year old granddaughter and I were planning to stay for two days and decided to stay an extra day. When we arrived, we were greeted by a small but determined echidna. Determined in that he very firmly decided the gardener was not going to remove him from under our car. The gardener was equally determined that this little bundle with his armour-plated spikes was going to be moved somewhere safer. I'm happy to say the gardener eventually won.

My granddaughter was in seventh heaven with all the books on each floor and even though they weren't her taste, the vision of floor to ceiling bookcases had her drooling ( I promise Kylie, she didn't drool on any of the books). The guest lounge room with its open fireplace, piano and comfortable old style lounges was a delight. Coffee and tea was available throughout the day in the "breakfast room" and again, there was a bookcase filled with books of various genres.

Our room was clean and comfortable with electric blankets on the beds and extra doonas on top of the wardrobe. The window actually opened, which is a rarity in hotel/motels these days and overlooked part of the gardens, and when the mist rolled in, it created a wonderful atmosphere.

Yes we had to use a shared bathroom and yes the fittings were old, but the water was hot and the towels soft and absorbent. Having a cooked breakfast each morning was great - food always tastes better when you don't have to cook it yourself.

The staff were friendly and helpful and when the young lady in reception realised I had a disability went out of her way to help take our luggage up three flights of stairs to our room after trying to have us moved to the first floor.

The only drawback was having to go out for lunch and dinner as there is no restaurant on site, but I'm sure this will change when Kylie and Brett become more established.

Would I go back again? Absolutely! I'm a writer and for me, it was the perfect place to stir creative juices.

I think the charm is outweighed by the over marketing of this place. It clearly has potential but is a long way off. The breakfast is not good, the staff dont attend to your needs, they mostly forget. The place is dusty and the rooms are basic, 1920's bath room (ensuite) looked tatty and dirty (it wasnt just all the facilities are very old) no heating, not much electricity, no features, eg. tv radio, phone, fridge, tea/coffee. The common areas seem to have good potential but with very few people staying there is not much opportunity to mix and mingle. No inspiration with the staff to " create something", eg. a cocktail and nibbles before dinner, afternoon tea in the lounge etc. the gardens are shabby and look nothing like the web experience. We tried a walk but it was awful. It was a completely unsatisfying stay in an overpriced place. I would gladly pay more if it lived up to the dreamy photos on the web. A romantic weekend turned into a joke. Many others I spoke to who stayed there had similar views and it was regarded as laughable. For the area better to stay and a more open B&B.

Do not stay here if there is a wedding function on at the same time. This place can't decide if it is a hotel or a reception house. A wedding function was held on a Saturday night we booked. The restaurant and bar areas were off limits to other guests and the party went on to 11 PM and the din was mind boggling. Ask if there is a wedding function on. If there is, do not go there.

We do hold weddings and functions here (as do most hotels in Australia and all over the world), but if we have a wedding on, the noise is always finished by 11pm, and is restricted to the ground level. All accommodation is on the next two floors up.
All rates for non wedding guests are heavily discounted, and guests are advised at the time of booking that they will not have access to the bar or lounge during this time.
This particular guest booked through an online website, which had a special note attached to the discounted rate saying "no access to common areas this night as private function has booked out ground level). This applies to all online bookings if we have a wedding or private function booked.
If you are concerned about private functions during your stay, please call or email us for reassurance.
If you are attending a wedding or function here, we can assure you of a wonderful time and look forward to seeing you.

We were the only guests in this manor, even all of the staff left at around 5pm, hence the title. I almost expected the deerhead over the fireplace or a ghostly barkeeper to haunt us at night. The rooms are a bit basic, especially the facillities but it all has its charme. The garden is really nice, it has a bit of a gothic feel with weathered little statues and the beautiful fountain near the entrance. They have tame peacocks walking around freely and a few other animals in a fenced of area in the back of the garden. There is also a pool next to the "zoo" although it looked like it has been years since it's been used. We took the opportunity to take some really nice pictures of the garden in the setting sun.
All in all the experience was very inspiring.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay with us.
As with most Country Hotels, reception closes at 6pm on Sundays, however we do have a night manager on site for after hours contact with in-house guests.
Sorry you didn't get to enjoy the pool! We empty it every April and refill it in September for the warmer weather.
It is now full, clean and sparkling and ready for use!
We hope to see you back here soon.
