Gateway Lifestyle Birubi Beach
Reviewed April 22, 2011

My husband, John and I stayed at Birbubi Beach CP. On the first morning at 6.30 am, a group of 4 guys started their van right next to ours. I asked management if they could ask them to please park a few meters away and I was told "well what do you think I can do about it? It's not as if they deliberately doing it, geez."

I was gobsmacked. I said "no of course not, that's not what I meant..."

She interrupted me by saying "Look, is there anything else? There's nothing I can do about it ok?"

I walked away shocked.

My husband and I asked the chaps very politely if they could move their car and they apologized and moved it without fuss.

Then the next day, the shower went cold. I notified the lady at the desk in the office and she said "what? Which one? Where?" I said "in the ladies shower block, shower number 4. A tradesman was present at the time and and said "look love, they're all like that."

I said "But this water was cold, like the absense of any warm water at all, like the cold tap."

He groaned and said "yeah whatever, I'll look at it later."

The office lady didn't seem to register at all.

Later that day I went to the beach with hubby, came back and hoped in the shower again. Yep, freezing cold. I finally found the owner who promptly fixed it. Apparently nothing had been done, no job lodged, it was the first time he'd heard about it.

The owner was fantastic, but the rest of the experience was very bad. When the group of guys left, we had a group of 7 come in next door who were all talking loudly till 10.20pm. I was going crazy. We asked them to please keep the volume down and eventually they complied.

Not only that but there is constant noise. Lawn mowers, groups of kids screaming, people talking loudly, four wheel drives driving past outside your window, leaf blowers, skateboards, teeangers talking loudly at 11pm outside your window, dogs barking....

I officially lost my sanity at this place.

upon arriving at our booked tent sites we were asked to immediately leave because were a group of 12 guys. We were on a fishing golf trip. This was stated when booking the campsite and we even had a third party set up tents proir to our arrival but with no notice and immediately on arrival manager went very weird and sited personal resons, nothing of which had to do with us. I find this action to be completely irrational.
I have stayed at plenty of places in port stephens and i will never come back here. Funny later on we found out locals call the camposite Ferral Park ...interesting.

We stayed in a standard cabin by the front entrance which was a bit noisey in the evening as cars come in and out of the holiday park. The park is 5 mins walk from the sand dunes and birubi beach both of which are stunning.

Some of the positives of the cabin are good shower pressure, full kitchen facilities and flat screen tv. Some of the negatives were hard beds, noise and plenty of signs up reminding you of the extra charges incurred for leaving unwashed dishes in the sink.

Overall a great location but if you are looking for good nights sleep you might want to try a deluxe cabin by the beachfront.

Me and my husband have now stayed at this holiday park twice. We stayed in the cheaper ensuite cabin, and then returned with our 18 month old son and stayed in the slightly more expensive deluxe cabin.

Anything you would need is there (clean, all crockery/appliances provided and good tv reception).

The deluxe cabins are about a 2 minute walk (across a road) from a HUGE, clean, wonderful beach good for swimming, surfing, walking, 4wd, quadbikes etc.

The location is fairly central to a small town centre, about a 5 minute walk but everything is there, chemist, supermarket, pub, etc.

The staff are friendly and there is plenty of facilities for cooking, laundry. There is a good pool. Most residents seem to live semi-permanently or own holiday cabins, they are friendly and helpful. There is no problems with noise or security.

It's a good place to bring both younger and older children, but you won't be necessarily put out if you're a couple or a group of adults.

Stayed here for 1 night with 10 other people over the weekend, so we could do quad biking on the dunes. Had a fantastic time on Stockton Beach which is a 5 min walk away from the caravan park.

We occupied 4 x Ensuite cabins, and at a cost of $80 per cabin per night we weren't expecting much. We were pleasantly surprised at how clean and comfortable they were. Each cabin had everything you could need including shower, toilet, full kitchen, fridge, tv, dvd player, couch. The list goes on!!!

On arrival we were met by a lovely lady who introduced us to the owners of the park and was full of information at hand. My mate purchased a 3 day 4WD pass so we could go onto the dunes at a cost of $10.

In the evening we all headed into their enclosed BBQ area (a shed with about 4 roller doors) which was fantastic because not only did it have a TV, but it also had a fireplace which had a roaring fire going and kept us all warm whilst we cooked on the barbie and sat around talking and watching the rugby.

I could not fault this caravan park one bit and I will definitely be returning in the near future!!!! Thanks to all the staff there who were very accommodating with our large group.
