“Great value option”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2009

Stayed in an outrigger cabin for 3 nights, just my wife and I.

Cabin was modern and well equipped, good kitchen, furniture.
Queen (?) bed in main bedroom was very very soft, our only complaint. Prob wouldn't bother many people. Second room had 2 single beds we didn't use. Fine bathroom.
Cabin was across the road from the beautiful calm beach (there is no pool, why would you need one?), and is just up the road from shoal bay resort and its good eating out options.

Don't eat at the italian pizza restaurant up the road, our pizza was totally burnt, and had tinned pre chopped olives. dominoes honestly would be better tasting and much cheaper.

Had a great relaxing stay, value would be even better with children.

We stayed in a Jacaranda cabin, which had a double bed up one end of the cabin screened off by curtin from the kitchen area and a triple bunk bed in a separate room at the other end through to a shower/toilet. The cabin was a bit bigger than I expected.

The park is fairly old but was clean and seemed reasonably well maintained. The cabins are fairly sparsely furnished with plates etc, but there are enough for a family of 5. Linen was all supplied and there was a small cooktop and microwave for cooking. The person who talked about the large pool was obviously at a different park or were talking about the beach, because there was no pool, which was the biggest drawback. The beach is however directly across the road (with a zebra crossing) and is calm water, so is like swimming in a pool. There are some beautiful surf beaches about 10-15 minutes drive away.

Quite a nice spot but my 5 to 9 year old kids found the playground a bit too 'young' and there was no pool.

This holiday park is like most others really.
We stayed here for the good value. We paid $80 a night, and although we got one of the cheaper cabins which are a touch dated, we couldn't complain really.
The cabin had all we needed to cook, half decent shower and the added bonus of Foxtel for the evening when we had run out of things to do!
The reception were really friendly and efficient and the rest of the facilities were reasonable with a recreation room with internet access, a couple of pool tables and a few games machines.
The location itself is quite near shoal bay shops, although if you want to eat out there isn't a great deal around.
Not bad, although i probbaly wouldnt pay the high season tariff to stay here as i imagine there are better places around for the money.

  • Liked — Foxtel in the cabin
  • Disliked — Few ants kicking around!

Room was fantastic, we were in the conference wing. It looked like a one bed apartment!!! Pool was big but crowded when we went there, good restaurants nearby. All in all a good experience for the money .

It is with some reluctance that we post a review of this place - only because we are afraid that if the word gets out it may become spoilt. The park was everything we hoped it might be - old school Australia by the sea. The park is spotless and has really good facilities. It's run by the local council. It offers a variety of lodgings from tent pitches to 'Outrigger Villas' which have 2 beds, full kitchen and air-con. We had one of these for five nights and it was great. Really well kitted out and surrounded by tropical planting etc.. There are plenty of nearby restaurants in Shoal Bay and in Nelson Bay. It is incredibly good value. The beach over the road from the camp is lovely. And a short walk down the road takes you to the Tomaree National Park - well worth the stroll.
