After reading many of the reviews online i was a little undecided whether to stay here or not, but after spending the night there my partner we were so glad we did. yes the decor and tv maybe a little out dated but it still nice, im not the type of person who stays some where because it looks 'flash,' i base it on the location, its surroundings and affordibility and it ticked every one of those boxes for me. yes it would look nice if they modernised it a little but then they will have to increase their prices and make it less affordable.

the staff were polite, friendly and very helpful, the location was great, we had a bay view room which was well worth the extra money. it was clean and tidy, the tv and the ceiling fan worked fine. the pool was clean and enjoyable to swim in, the gardens were beautiful and well maintained, there was great little park for kids and even a boat ramp too.

after having just stayed there on the wkend my partner and i are already planning our next trip back but are planning on taking my neice and nephews because they will love it too :)

Room Tip: definately one with a bay view, well worth the extra money

We were booked into this hotel by an agent in Australia for a stay in october 2012. The address was incomplete so our sat nav sent us to the other side of the bay (over 2 hours extra). The name had changed to Ibis, but we were not informed, so we spent 10-15 minutes driving up and down to find it. Asked everntually and were directed. That was only the begining. The room was grubby and the fly screen full of dust. At dusk we couldn't read as 3 bulbs had blown. I phoned reception and was told that she was on her own but would find someone. Twenty minutes later I went to reception and was told the same thing. When I asked for the manager she said I couldn't see him, he was in his room. However, amazingly, someone appeared to change the bulbs. The manager, apparently, couldn't be disturbed. While I was 'bulb hunting' my husband was evicting bugs from the shower room. To top it all, some of the other guests were extremely rowdy at about 3 in the morning.

Room Tip: All the rooms seemed to open onto outdoors. We had a garden room, which should have been very pleasi...

Our introduction to Salamander Shores was surprising. Reception was hard to locate and not at all inviting. The carpark is pot-holed and difficult to negotiate. However the most difficult aspect of the hotel is the access. The single lift operates only from the carpark at level2 to the top (5th floor). The lift was old & smelly. So to reach the Reception and the Restaurant facilities one has to negotiate 2 flights of internal stairs, or external paths & poorly maintained steps. Not satisfactory for elderly or anyone with a mobility problem. Accor would need to look into DDA compliance for this establishment - it could not possibly comply.
We found the room to be spacious, and clean, though the furniture & fittings are very old & tired, particularly the old TV with the remote which did not work. The ceiling fan was unusable & noisy. Fortunately the AC unit had been updated & worked well, as we were unable to leave the sliding door to the Balcony open for fresh air, owing to the neighbouring guests smoking habits ( for our first night, into the small hours of the morning).
The breakfasts & the evening meals in the Restaurant were really good, and for Accor Advantage plus members like ourselves, very good value. We realise this hotel is Accor Ibis standard, but having stayed in a wide range of Accor hotels over the years, this one was a little below par.

Room Tip: We were in a Garden Room, however the Bayview rooms may have been better - with the sea view.

Recently spent 3 nights here and considering the change in the weather ( tail end of the Queensland cyclone ) we had a good weekend. Spent the extra money and got a spa room which was cosy, the spa wasn't super size but it did what it was supposed to and it was very clean unlike the other review. We ate twice at the restaurant once was room service. First night in the restaurant service was prompt, attentive and freindly. Food was really good too, steak was cooked almost how I like it but then its hard to please a chef who rarely gets the chance to eat out, but the quality of the meat was exepctional. Second night was room service, we ordered ahead because of a one hour wait due to a busy service. We went for a swim in the pool (in the rain) to kill some time and just as we went to leave the gentleman who took my order came to the pool to apologise, the kitchen had already sent our meal to the room. He had re directed it already and it would arrive up in 5 minutes. It did and it was hot. That is service at its best. The veiws from the upper floors are postcard perfect and the gardens are well looked after. Nice location, you could throw a stone to the beach which I was told is safe for swimming when the gales aren't blowing. Rainbow Lorikeets visit the balconies, look beside your tea cups in room, they like the little complimentary biscuits. Very tame. Now the downside, none of which I can attribute to the on site management or staff. After a little research this hotel/motel has a birth date in the 60's and to this day looks like very little has been spent on upgrading of any kind. The lift did stop working while there but as we can use stairs it didn't cause us any problems. If you do get stuck inside and watching TV is all you can do then the sets are small and dated, no digital picture and bad signal ( but tv shouldn't be a priority on holiday ) and last but not least Accor could spend a little cash and decorate the place inside and out to at least give it a modern feel even if they can't change the layout. Just one question for anyone from Accor reading this, as a frequent Accor traveller who recently spent time at the Sebel Kiama and spent less for a far superior hotel, has the company recently purchased Salamander Shores to take on the long overdue re development or are they just leasing and squeezing it for every cent they can get?Seems unfair to the staff who made our weekend and have to deal with complaints the company should be dealing with. Thanks again to the staff.

Room Tip: Do go for upper rooms for views.
