Stayed for 6 nts in good sized room (ground floor), lots of hot water, powerful heater and tv in room.

Great location, the two 14 year olds were able to snowboard from the front door down to the lifts and come and go as they pleased. Great staff, transfers were fun and quick. NICE QUIET place to stay (no rowdy groups).

Great that some of the games in the games room are free (hours of ping pong were played). The food was only ok - many nights one of the 14 yr olds didn't eat as there is no choice (curry, stronganoff etc was not popular) also a bit disappointed at being charged extra to feed the kids as adults when the room cost was based on two adults and one kid.

All in all a great place, (just don't expect 'nice' rooms, there are holes in the walls and mismatched furniture, but its warm and clean) they need to provide more choice with the food.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review and that the property's location and games room etc made for a good family holiday. Disappointed about the kids meals not meeting your expectation and not sure what you mean about the kids paying for adult meals? As always we encourage any concerns or suggestions be given to our local management in the first instance but also welcome feedback to our head office, Deane's Snow Holidays as well

This is less of a review and more of a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at the Matterhorn. I stayed there with a family group (2 families), including 4 girls for a week. When we weren't on the slopes, it was a pleasure to be back at the lodge. Nothing was too much trouble for Aaron, Luke, Mitch, Sinead and the rest of the staff. Their attitude towards the kids and families staying there made it feel more like you were staying with family.

The lodge itself is what it is, but the games room (with the bar alongside for the grownups) is an absolute godsend. Happy kids, happy parents. Food was really good, kids meals superb, and it was no issue at all to make adjustments (or throw in a bit extra for a ravenous grommet snowboarder).

I've travelled a fair bit on my own with 2 kids and have a full appreciation for how rare it is to stay somewhere that the managers and staff understand the challenges this presents and are not only accomodating, but actually seem to enjoy the fact that they have a group of happy boisterous kids under their feet. Thank-you, keep up the good work, and I hope the rest of the season goes well.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a great review. Aaron, Luke and the crew work hard at making families feel as much at home as possible, and yep the games room is a winner for kids of all ages. The crew really look forward to welcoming you back.

Thanks to Aaron, Luke and their team -Sinead, Mitch, Loza and co. - we had a great first family ski holiday. They were always friendly, approachable, flexible to our needs and happy to sit at the bar and have a chat. With hours out on the ski fields each day, it was fantastic (esp as a Mum!) to come home to a different cooked meal each night...loved the zucchini fritters, bruschetta (prepared for us late after we returned from night skiing and had missed dinner - thanks Mitch!), curry, mongolian chicken etc. Mark esp loved the pavlova and pannacotta! We travelled with another family and between us had 5 boys aged between 8 - 11. They enjoyed sitting on a table together on their own, as did we the parents!! The kids ate almost everything, altho for the older kids they probably could have had slightly bigger servings. Brekky was fine, good to see fresh cut fruit some days. The playroom for the kids was ideal, and whilst I thought it would be noisy given the fire and bar are in the same area it worked well. The rooms are simple with very basic bathrooms, however it worked for us. If you are fussy then this may not work for you. Just remember, if you are a keen skiier, then you are only in your room to sleep and shower. We had a great room, room 7, that had an enclosed balcony and looked out over the slopes. Perfect size for 2 adults and 2 kids to share. Over snow transfers were included which was a bonus for arrival and departure and fun for the kids! Like others have suggested, getting a locker to keep skis down at the lift was a good idea, esp for the kids. We thoroughly enjoyed our first ski holiday and are already planning the next one! Thanks again Matterhorn team. Hope you are enjoying that powder and port this week!!

Room Tip: Room 7 was good - enclosed balcony and view out over the slopes

Thanks for taking the time to share your review. I'm glad your first time in the snow was a fantastic experience, which is what our mountain teams strive to achieve at all of our properties. Aaron, Luke and the crew try very hard to make families as welcome as possible (whilst giving mum a break). Matterhorn is the ideal choice for location, price and facilities that families are attracted to. Thanks again for sharing and i am sure the team would have loved to read your review, if they're not busy with the powder and port that is. Hope to see you back down there soon!

We just had a 5 days stay at this hotel. Although it wasn't a 5 star property, in fact, some of the facilities were a little rundown, the location was perfect and with friendly staff, it was enough to 'off-set' its shortfall including lugging suitcases up 2 flights of stairs!
Our stay included all breakfasts and dinners. Breakfast was about the same everyday, we did get a bit tired of it by day 4. Dinner was good, changed every night with dessert as well. Transfer from the bus stop was also included.
The room we had was basic overlooking the street, during our first night, it had snowed overnight, it sight was wonderful for us Queenslander. There was snow everywhere! All the other ski facilities were within a short walk away.
There was a games room downstairs with a fireplace to make it feel cosy. The kids had fun there while waiting for dinner most nights.
Overall, we had a very nice first snow experience.

Room Tip: Try to get the room facing the street. it is perfect to see the fireworks on Tuesday Nights and be a...

Thanks for taking the time to right a review and that you had a good time (and that it snowed on cue). The location and price does sell the property, as does the crew and that the "less than new" feel about the place is made up for. The dining room crew have been pumping out some great dinners and its nice you enjoyed those.

If basic on snow accommodation is what your looking for then this is the place for you. Breakfast and dinner is a communal affair but we rather enjoyed talking to others and hearing how their day was and where they skied. The food was surprisingly good and we met some awesome people while staying there. Just remember you are out skiing all day and they are not claming to be 5 star. It was great to come back late arvo and chill by the fire have a few drinks and a chat and have dinner and head off to bed to be ready for the next day..For us it was all about affordable on snow accommodation. Thoroughly enjoyed my time see you this year...

I agree with everything written in all the previous reviews - all true. Matterhorn is a lower-cost option with a few cut corners (eg. some tattiness, breakfast could be more generous, young staff). So if you don't mind those things it is good value and amenable service. The only real negative was the uncleaned table in our room which meant that dust was all over the rims of the upturned cups. During our stay, our daughter became very ill and we got looked after well: being offered a lift to the doctors, food requests met and given a late checkout. Aaron was the stand-in chef for 2 weeks and did a fantastic job (with 17 years experience as a chef, of course) - so nice to have fresh veges that are not overcooked!! Food is so important after a full day's skiing and this is where the Matterhorn excels. We would stay again.

Our experience at the Matterhorn was exactly what our family needed. We took our 3 & 7 year old boys for a ski holiday and the Matterhorn had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. The chefs made us AMAZING meals for dinner and the kids meals were the best any restaurant has ever served up in the way of kids meals. Aaron the Manager was extremely friendly and ever so accommodating, being on hand when needed and delivered everytime - absolutely superb! Skye was extremely friendly being available nearly all the time and Mitch was on the ball at the Bar. All other staff were very nice - couldn't fault the staff at all :) The only negative I had was the comfort of the beds, the mattresses were not comfortable at all. The only other thing would be the walk to the chairlift in the morning with my small boys, but if lucky you could catch a ride with the oversnow. Returning guests suggested leaving ski gear in a locker for the week down at Perisher, thought this was worth noting as I would have found this a handy tip. All in all I would return to the Matterhorn next year as I felt it is great value for money. My boys loved the kids play area (lots to do) and quickly made friends.
