I visited Wharf Road with my wife and 3 kids (8yrs, 5 yrs and a baby) without a booking. The staff found us a table on the terrace and turned all the heaters on. The service was very attentive and friendly. The menu is very interesting with Alpaca ribs, duck, lamb etc. They also have a taster menu with a number of options. You can order ala carte or do a 5 or 7 course degustation - which I think is only $50 and $70 respectively. It is a very rare restaurant - in that it caters for kids while also being quite refined and posh. If you book a table on the terrace, the kids can be loud and look over the water and the bridge without being a hindrance to the rest of the patrons in the main area.

We were very disappointed and wish we would have listened to the local advise but we chose not to and continued with our plans to dine at Wharf Road. We received very poor service especially with the amount of staff they had on and very few customers they had in!
The decor, menu & food, I feel was trying far to hard to be 'trendy'. It was very expensive for what you receive and the quality of the food was below average! I don't want my food served on wooden chopping boards or on salt bricks! The duck fat roast potatoes were just woeful!!!
The wine list is great, the ales on tap are fantastic and the scenic view of the river are the only things this place has going for it. Sadly disappointing....

Service was bad - lots of staff doing not a lot. Had to wait 10 mins for wine list and a further 15 to order. Had to prompt for explanation of the menu. The banquets are not available to individual diners as it was explained that not everyone would be eating at the same time. Our main meals however were not served all at once with a 4 min wait for all to arrive before we could start. The 6 hr lamb was dry, the alpaca ribs were boring with no real flavour and lacked seasoning - for an unusual menu item it certainly was not showcased. The squid despite advice from the waitress was not adequate for a main meal plus it was missing a component listed on the menu. The duck fat roasted potatoes were just warm. The decor and setting is fantastic, however the lighting was frustrating as the lights dimmed and brightened randomly which became distracting. Half of the table was cleared at the end of the main meals with the other half remaining on the table being ignored by passing staff for around 10 mins, only when an empty plate was given to a passing waitress was the rest of the table cleared. We were really looking forward to the evening however it was sadly a disappointing experience all round.

Having heard good reviews, we were looking forward to a great night. Unfortunately very dry chicken and over cooked duck fat roasted potatoes dampened our experience. The service was excellent, but I am not sure if I am prepared to try it again. The venue is wonderful, a lovely outlook.

Have just been to Wharf Road for a dinner prior to my daughters wedding on the S Coast. We had a party of 17 and needed to get through the evening in a timely fashion to ensure we got to bed at a reasonable time prior my daughters big day. We had a lovely evening. The restaurant is well designed and has a laid back but professional /nsophisticated atmosphere. On arrival we had drinks on the patio / verandah overlooking the river and then moved into the restaurant where we had a section of the room which gave us some privacy but didn't cut us off from the bustle of the restaurant. We all ordered the set menu which was quite exceptional from fish cerviche served on a salt block to the lamb the likes of which I have never had better. The service was good and at $50 a head the meal was good value. We would go back.
