Dined here with my partner upon recommendation of the B&B owner we stayed with. Were surprised at the beautiful ambiance of the restaurant, it is quite new and beautifully appointed with a modern-rustic feel. Huge fireplace and very funky stools at the bar, would have loved to have a cocktails there - recommend arriving early for a pre-dinner cocktail sitting at the bar.
The food was interesting, we tried a few different smaller dishes for a 'self-curated' degustation. Really enjoyed the carpacio, the rest of the dishes were good to try but would probably try other ones next time.
Service was friendly.
Would go there again if we're in the area for the atmosphere!

After reviewing the menu online we certainly had high expectations, and had already decided on what we were going to have before we arrived. We were greeted by the staff whom were friendly and offered a complimentary drink and ushered us to sit on the balcony overlooking the beautiful Shoalhaven River.

The restaurant itself is light with a feeling of openness, tastefully decorated with a subtle maritime theme and has large low swinging singular lights that are reminiscent of the original Thomas Edison light globe. There is a casual area where patrons can sit back and relax and enjoy a drink while taking in the views.

It was when we were taken to our table where sadly the experience waned.

Firstly we were given a menu that was designed especially for the evening, and not what we were expecting at all. Obviously there was confusion and disappointment on our faces because the maître de was kindly enquiring. Unbeknownst to us, when booking online a special box was meant to appear explaining that the regular menu would not be available and there was a $95 degustation menu.

The maître de returned and provided us with a “bar menu” which was more of a choice of tapas, but also offered the option of choosing of the degustation menu. We decided to stay since we had been looking forward to the experience.

Sadly the only experience we could compliment the restaurant was the view. The wagyu sliders were tasteless and fell apart, only being held together by a slice of melted cheese. The chicken strips appeared to have been thrown onto the plate as if it was some Olympic sport. The arrival of the lamb (served on a breadboard) although not offensive, certainly lacked any “wow” feeling, so to the pork which also was served on a breadboard. Perhaps they had run out of dinner plates?

The lamb was tender, but had no real defining taste, the pork was the same. Tender, no taste and served with a very large slice of fat.
All members of the party commented on the heat of the meals which were just warm.

Despite the cuisine being average, it would be discreditable of me not to acknowledge the service of the maître de who genuinely tried to turn the evening into something positive for all involved.

It truly was a disappointing evening, and once again the Shoalhaven is left to pine for a fine dining experience where the quality of the food leaves you yearning for more, a restaurant that you can confidently recommend to a visitor to the area. But finally an evening where you walk out thinking to yourself “wow”, we’ll be back.

What a fantastic evening of food an wine. Cocktails overlooking the river and freshly shucked oysters were amazing. The degustation banquet was well and truly worth it. The food was flavored nicely and we especially enjoyed the beef and the squid and blood sausage, and the fish carpaccio. They have a great wine selection and make a fantastic mojito! Staff were knowledgable about the menu and the service was great. Our only letdown was we would have liked.clean plates for each of the courses but apart from that it was sensational

When you walk into Wharf Rd you are welcomed by polite staff and guided through the white restaurant with very chic furnishings. The lights above the table are brilliant and effective as is the fireplace with sheepskin surrounds. Very cool. Our waiters were knowledgeable and attentive. The wines we chose were lovely, Hunky Dory Sav Blanc and the Silos Squid Ink Shiraz which has always been a local favourite.
We tried the degustation and were so looking forward to it after eating at Hungry Duck many times. We were sadlt disappointed. The portion size were very small and my partner and I left hungry. 1st course consisted of 2 mouthfuls of the flathead ceviche, 2nd course was 4 bits of aspargus to share, 3rd course was the slow cooked egg salad, this was a very tasty dish. We thought we were getting somehwere here. 4th course was the Squid with blood sausage which was ever so tasty but left us wanting more. 5th course was the stand out of kingfish, though the waitress poured the seafood broth all over the crispy garnish of the dish so then when going to eat it became soggy and wet, was shame as it wouldve been a brilliant texture. 6th course which I was awaiting with baited breath just didnt deliver unfortunately. The lamb was overcooked on parts and the duck fat potatoes were cold, hard and chewy. It was the worst course we had. The degustation didnt include dessert so we decided to have this as we were starving, I had the hummingbird cake which was an absolute stand out, this they should be very proud of. I really wanted this experience to be right on the money though we left hungry and disappointed as nothing wowed us. I like the concept, the idea and maybe as there was a table of 30 booked also things were a little hectic? Thank you, but just wish it delivered us more.
