Disappointed in all facets of the place it doesn't seem to be an hotel or apartment block and as for the lay out; most confusing. Whilst we were there for 5 nights the smell permeating through from the underground car park was quite nauseating due to the open garbage bins and heat from A/C motors, not good. My wife and I took a serviced 1 bedroom apartment which was very spacious and well appointed but when it came to servicing all we received were fresh towels the floor wasn't cleaned for the whole time we were there!

i stayed last year at the Oaks Pacific Blue Resort at Nelson Bay and had a wonderful time - so when they were full, i decided to stay at the sister property - Oaks Lure.

After reading these reviews, i though alot of people were just complaining - and i really thought about this review before writing it. Even though the apartments are practically new - the place has no aura or niceties at all - NONE! Every piece of furniture, decor, corridors, shower, lamp - absolutely everything thing was white and grey. The studio apartment felt like sleeping in a 10sqm hospital room (btw the room was tiny...seriously one of the smallest resort rooms i have ever slept in) with a nice shower and toilet - and because it rained the entire time, the mood was even worse because the room was even more gloomy.

Now for the worst part - both my friend and I had two of the worst sleeps ever due to the very high sitting pillows and the rock hard bed.

On the surface, in fairness, the place was spotless, and i didn't ask for any service, so cant complain there. We had underground parking which was nice, and the location was actually great (1block to coles and petrol station, and 2 to the marina, and 5min drive to everywhere). But the whole white empty feeling was 'bland' and when your on holidays, you don't want to feel like your in a dreary hospital.

Next time - will only stay at the Pacific Blue or another resort. I would still recommend it if you need a nice clean place to stay and not fussed at all, but all they need are nice lamps, coat of COLOURED paint, and some colour...

I have just got back from a trip to Nelson Bay. Stayed at Oaks Lure. The hotel is definitely not a four star, has no appeal. It looks like a commercial office building. I had booked the 2 bedroom unit through www.needitnow.com.au. There is no mention on this site or on the Oaks Lure website that the unit has one bedroom on the lower level and another on the upper level. The sites just say split level apartment and one would think both bedrooms are on the same level. I even called them up before booking and explicitly said we are traveling with young kids including a toddler. Even then they failed to mention that this room might not be suitable for us.There are steep internal stairs, my kids tripped over a couple of times. we felt it was unsafe to leave the kids on the upper level as the main door is on that level, the kids can easily open the door and walk out without anyone knowing. The upper room had 2 single beds which my husband and I slept in for the next 2 nights. We had to put the kids in the lower level bedroom. If you have young kids, I will definitely not recommend this place. The staff are not friendly at all and lack a 'Can Do' attitude. The apartment was nice but had many issues. The bathroom door didn't close, AC didn't work for the first night but there was no one at reception to fix this issue. The towels supplied to us were disgusting, had stains on them. when we complained, the only response was housekeeping sent us new towels..no apologies. Also this hotel is on a busy road so very noisy at night.
They won't check you in even an hour before 2.00 pm you have to pay extra for that and on the day we were checking out, the housekeeping staff was at our door even before it was 10.00 am asking us when we were checking out. The service is not up to the mark. I will definitely not stay here again.

We stayed in the one bedroom apartment and loved it. Make sure you get the top floor for great views of the bay from your balcony (great for having a beer/wine after a day at the beach!). The apartment was really modern, clean and good value. We booked through the entertainment book and got a great deal of $93-$104/night for fri, sun and mon.
We had a hotel room on the Saturday night as all the1 bdr's were booked out. It was ok (same modern decor, no view), but we thought it was worth it getting the one bedroom apartment with the extra space and view. The hotel room actually cost more in the end on the Saturday night for about $130 on lastminute.com.
The oaks was only a one block walk from coles and 2 blocks from the shops and marina.
Free parking was good, but limited and packed on the weekend. It was easy enough to just park on the street and we found no issues with it.

The apartments are ideally situated away from the noisy marina but close enough to walk in town - leave the car behind. We had a 1 bedroom apartment overlooking the bay in the distance. They should advise guests that all units (expect 1 small studio) have a flight of stairs. Nelson Bay and the Port Stephens area is a great location to kick start your Australian holiday after leaving Sydney behind. We say plenty of Kangaroos and even a Koala sleeping up in a tree. The waters are crystal clear. The harbourside shops and restaurants were wonderful and there were plenty to pick from.

We stayed 7 nights at oaks Lure which is in a very convenient location in Nelson Bay and this drew us to it. Our booking was made with ebookers and was described as a modern hotel room spacious with superior furnishings. From the website the pictures showed a good room. The hotel does not look at all inviting , more like an office block. It is just corridors which are very clinical. There are 3 steps down at intervals which people tun or jump down which is very annoying and noisy. We arrived just after 6 pm to find we could not get in and we did not know for sure how to access as our call line was not responded to. Someon appeared after 25 minutes and was not at all welcoming or took the time to tell you what was what. We were given a short letter of arrival and told to report at the front desk in the morning. On doing so were were asked for our full payment. We were told that both our credit cards from different banks were invalid and we would have to return with the cash. We had both usedour credit cards the day before so were puzzled and concerned it was very embarrassing in fron of other customers. We spent all of that morning trying to reach out banks, paying costly phone calls to uk to be told that there was nothing wrong with our cards and no transaction had tried to be taken. By then we had lost half a day. On returning to the desk later our cards worked and the unhelpful guiy sadi oh maybe the terminal was not working. No apology was given. Our room was quite superior looking but had a connecting door to another room .We could hear every word and action which was not only embarrsassing for us but affected our comfort. We had to listen to someone elses TV choice and coughing late into the night. We asked if we could move to another room that was not joined but no chance. We also asked for 2 soft pillows as a swop for 2 of the 4 given ( 2 are soft and 2 harder) as my partner has a bad back . We were told house keeping did not have any. Surprise that on the way back up stairs the house keeper produced 2 immediately . The room whilst looking trendy was not practical. it had a shiny tiled wet room that was downright dangerous. Everything got soaked and no hand rail to steady you. We ended up standing on a towel in the shower. Whilst you are given a microwave ,toaster and access to the barbecue you do not have a table and chairs to sit and eat ot relax so everything has to be done sitting on th bed. After the first day we were puzzled that our room described as a hotel room was not serviced. We did not get a change of sheets ot towels all week. very poor and no one told us. An electronic tag lets you into all the lifts rooms and underground carpark but we still felt security was compromised as there was never any sign oof the staff on corridors. Youths ran around shouting and knocking on peoples doors whilst we were there and waited until people put there tags into the frong door to slip by . This was a very unwelcoming hotel with staff who need to be retrained in customer hospitality You can do so much better in Nelson Bay.We have written a letter of complaint.

I stayed in a Hotel Room for 3 nights. I found a cheap rate through Oaks website and for $89 a night, the Hotel Room was very good value. The Hotel Room would be quite spacious for one person, however was a bit squishy for two people. A one bedroom apartment would probably be better for two people (but they were all booked out). Hotel Room was equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, toaster, microwave, small fridge and plates/cups/cutlery for two. This was adequate to prepare easy breakfasts and lunches but not dinner. Oaks lure is in a great location, walking distance to main centre of town. Had secure underground parking (no charge). Would stay here again.
