We stayed in a balcony room on the 4th floor, beautiful view. Office staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are in need of an upgrade - in a 70's time warp! Could be a little better equiped. Bed was comfortable - could hear next doors shower though and on returning to room could smell the restaurant which was on the 4th floor too! Short walk to Marina or shops from resort.

Room Tip: Balcony room for the views

We were looking for a break away and decided to book the Marina Resort on a room upgrade deal. As part of the deal we were upgraded from the Nelson Room to the Harbour Room. We stayed for two nights mid week during school holidays. I travelled with my partner and two youngest boys aged two and one. On arrival you see the property is an older style one, however inside it was clean and check in staff were friendly. Our room was a good size, had terrific water views, it was clean and comfortable. The room had a queen size bed, a single bed and fold out. It had a table and chairs inside and as well as chairs on the balcony (which we moved inside because of the height of the balcony railing and our two boys who are honing their climbing skills). There was also a microwave in the room. We had a busy couple of days, the weather was overcast and wet but we didn't spend a lot of time at our accommodation as there is plenty to do. The motel is short walking distance from the marina, tour departures, town centre, clubs and restaurants. There is plenty of parking too. During our stay we never ate at the resort restaurant but a buffet breakfast was well priced at $15 for adults and $7.50 for children and the daily 3 course dinner specials were $30. All is all it seemed good value for money.

Room Tip: All rooms face the Marina, the higher the better the views. Our room had a older style spa bath as w...

My husband and I along with our 3 week old daughter stayed for a weekend at the Marina Resort. Although the location is excellent the whole resort does need an urgent upgrade. Because it was a last minute booking we stayed on the ground level the first night then moved to the 3rd level into a bigger room, the problem we found with both rooms was that the air conditioner was really loud and irritating and we needed to use it as it was the middle of summer. The bathrooms are very outdated and the furniature needs an upgrade as well. The price they charge per night is a little expensive for what you get, you really are paying for the view and location.

We booked this to attend our friends' wedding. Arangements had been made to get a 10% discount if at least ten of us stayed there. The Lobby was old and dingy looking and the front desk area looked cluttered and unkept. Not the neat, efficient desk you normally see. We waited about 5 minutes for someone to come to serve us. One employee walked by and looked into a back office to see if someone was there and then said not to worry someone will come by and walked off. Finally a man came out of a side room carrying his dirty dishes and stepped behind the desk. We were told there were not enough rooms taken for the discount. Fair enough. We signed in and stepped into the elevator. It also was dingy and looked like it hadn't been painted in many years. We got out on our floor and headed down the hall. As we passed the open door to the room next to ours I was struck by a flying floor-sweep brush, thrown by the maid. She was in the room and tossed it out the door to land on her cart. But it hit me in the chest instead. The room was large and had a good view but the furnishings looked old and scratched and like something from the 80's. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. We slept well. On checking out I again brought up the discount because we had beent told by the folks who set this up that we did, in fact, have 10 rooms. I was again told that wasn't so. Long story short, we got the refund when one of the arrangers went back and sorted the guy out. He was rude and obviously didn't care about us or his job. We were one of only a few of our group who hadn't left town and could go back for the discount they deserved. The hotel looks like it is being left to fall down and the rumour (unsubstantiated) in town is they are just waiting for planning approval to tear it down for condos. Whatever the reason, there is no excuse for what occurred. Not just to us but all the folks in our group felt poorly treated. And the staff were, at best, unprofessional.

Room Tip: There are other good hotels in Nelson Bay. Pick any other one.

Clean and relativley comfy, far from 5 star but plesant enough for couple of nights stay. Clean enough, air con VERY loud but worked quite well. Pool neat, place could have done with a bit of a tidy up, eg, lawns mowed etc. We were in a garden view room which had minimal views of the marina. Staff were plesant enough. Would reccommend only for a weekend away.

Room Tip: Nice enough for a weekend stay

My partner & i stayed here. The price was ok and the room was pleasantly clean and easy to get to the town /marina.
We made use of the sauna and enjoyed the fact we could use it when ever we liked.
The room had all the mod cons that we needed.
There is bad reviews on here but our room seemed ok and for a weekend away where we are not there to stay in the room even though it was raining we found it all good :-)
Staff pleasant on reception
