My boyfriend and I decided to make a 6 hour spontaneous trip the Nelson Bay. After struggling to find somewhere to stay and driving around getting lost we stumbled across The Nelson. We where greeted by a friendly staff member who gave us the option of available rooms that we could have. We opted for a room on the 2nd floor on the town Centre side. The room was amazing. Spacious, very clean and simply just amazing. Location was awesome, being a 2 minute walk to the marina, restraunts, town Centre and not even a 5 minute walk to the beach. The pool was great - loved the shelter, free from the sun and bugs etc. We played a hit of tennis - even managed to lose a ball due to my amazing tennis skills :p - was prepared to reimburse for the missing ball but was told not to worry about it as it happened a lot and had a great laugh with the 2 lovely receptionists about my terrible skills.
We booked a deep sea fishing trip for our last day and realized that we should have booked our room for an extra night. Although we couldn't keep the room we originally had, we where upgraded to the 3rd floor into a spa room on the road and as our fishing trip started at 6 am, the staff members moved all our luggage to the new room and was all ready for us when we returned that afternoon. The new room was great with a beautiful view of the ocean. Balcony door was a bit hard to open. But once shut could barely hear any of the road noise. Overall we both really enjoyed our holiday and it was topped off by the amazing vibe that The Nelson had. The staff where all amazing. Cafe did great coffee and breakie. Great room and location. Will definitely be recommending this place to everyone I know. Thanks to all of The Nelson staff for making our trip a very memorable one - even the happy, chirpy maintenance man. We will be back for sure.

This was our second stay at the resort in as many years. The resorts location is brilliant, within minutes of shops, restaurants leisure activities. The resort is always clean, tidy and has a great feel. Staff are always polite and happy to help. Rooms are spacious, cleaned daily and comfortable. The resort boasts a swimming pool suitable for families and BBQ area. Could not recommend the resort more highly.

We stayed 2 nights before Christmas, at a room facing the main road. Apart from the noise emerging from the garbage truck on Friday morning, the nights were quiet. Perhaps the Holiday crowd hasn't arrived yet.

This place has a lovely under sheltered pool, and a tiny gym. But that was all we need. The pool was heated, so I think people can swim throughout the whole year. The shade was a blessing from the hot summer sun.

We also tried their breakfast. The egg Benedict was good, coffee was great, and the bacon & egg roll was huge (enough for two).

The best thing is their location. Walking distance to the marina, fish co-op, and the main streets where the restaurants and Coles are located. You can also hire bikes here but choice is limited. Parking space are sufficient too. We would definitely come back if the price remain reasonable, the pool & the location are the winner !

My family and I stayed here for two nights to break up a road trip between Brisbane and Melbourne. Perfect location, close to shops and restaurants. Clean and spacious room only complaint being a noisy air con unit which intermittently buzzed no matter what we did to try and stop it resulting in little sleep on our second night.
Staff were very helpful from reception to cafe to housekeeping. Got directions to best beach and we're not disappointed - absolutely magical spot!

Stayed here with the family for 4 nights as had a conference in the hotel. We had two rooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first. Staff were excellent when arranging for cots and arrival. Rooms were of a high standard although we did pick up a safety issue that the toddlers could escape through the sliding door onto the balcony through the screen doors (staff fixed this rapidly and even checked other rooms). There is good access to the shopping strip through the car park arcade. Café restaurant was above average and the quality of food and drinks excellent. Overall a solid establishment in the centre of town. Would definitely stay here again !

Room Tip: I have read comments about the rooms facing the street but we never noticed any noise

The staff were outstanding in their helpfulness. We booked only 4 days before arrival and the lady I spoke to on the phone pulled out all the stops to find the rooms we needed. The shower head was floppy and was fixed within 5 minutes of reporting it. On the down side, the hotel needs to be more grey-friendly and install grip bars in showers and an easier was to get to Reception/Little Nel for meals such as a lift, the alternative being a long but fairly level walk.
