We chose The Nelson fResort or a girls weekend away because it was central to the bay and everything was in walking distance.

The resort has recently been refurbished and is no longer a 60s flashback but a chic, friendly hotel. The rooms are fresh and airy, the decor elegant but casual - you could really make yourself at home on the couch (and we did!). The kitchenette was handy for storing our champagne and cheese, and the full length mirrors perfect for us girls to do our make up and dressing up. A big thumbs up for the beds...they have those quilted matress toppers on them....aaaahhhh, so comfy! I was so glad that the bathrooms are new too.

We were a bit concerned that our room balcony faced the street, but we it was really quiet in the evening/morning, and there was no noise from the courtyard carpark either.

We dined locally, at the one hat restaurant, Zest. It was really good. Surprisingly good for a regional restaurant and great value for the quality of food and the wine list.

It rained the next morning so we had coffee and breakfast at the cafe in the resort. Loads of newspapers and magazines at the cafe/reception area and a great view of the bay. The coffee was just what I needed, definitely up to Sydney standards and I regret not getting a takeaway for the drive home.

Hotel accommodation in the bay area can be hard to find - there's a lot of serviced apartments or holiday house rentals. If you want to stay somewhere central, with easy access to the beach, but don't want the cost of a large apartment, then this is a good option.

My partner and I stayed in a queen delux spa studio which was very modern and spacious. it even had an extra single bed and a sofa bed which wasn't excpected. the bathroom was very large with a nice large shower over spa bath. Just a tip that you have to turn a switch on in the middle of the bathroom vanity to get the spa to work. room came with nice complimentary shampoos and body gel, tea coffee and biscuits. 4 fresh towls were provided and a hair dryer. bed was very comfortable with lots of nice big pillows. my biggeset dissapointment was the noise at 8am monday morning as it sounded like continous hammering above our room which was impossible to get back to sleep. the location is a 5 miniute walk to the marina and if you walk out the back of the hotel there is an entrance to the arcade. the passionfruit juice cafe in the arcade is great for a cheap big breakie or fruit juice and Sue in there is very friendly. we didnt eat at the hotel as monday mornings was the only day they arnt open for breakfast which was a shame. would stay here again as the price for a spa room was great.

Room Tip: ensure you ask for a renovated room as I gathered some others were a bit run down

A very cheap motel but with good value. Location is excellent, just walking distance to the whale/ dolphin watching departure at the Marina. Staff is very kind to allow us to park our car in the motel after our check out. Only downside is that we need to carry our luggage to 3rd floor and it's very heavy.

We stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment just prior to easter for 2 nights with our 2 yea old son and friends from NZ, I booked this place purely for the location. It is situated within walking distance to the marina, park restaurants and shops.
I was really suprised with the cleanliness of the rooms we had so much space.
Yes it was a little noisy at night and other travellers were also noisy but you get that anywere.
We had drinks around the pool and it was nice and warm for our toddler to have a swim.
I thought the price we paid was very reasonable and i would stay here again.

First of all, the hotel has wonderful new owners! So, it’s headed in a fresh new direction. The hotel has “new this and new that”, nice landscaping around the front, fresh paint inside and out with soft colour tones adorning the rooms, new linens and furniture too (nice)– all a plus. My guest “suite” was basically well-appointed with a small two-seater sofa, flat screen Samsung t.v. (tellie) on the wall, good sized shower and bright bathroom (clean, clean) with a very large mirror, thick towels (hmmm), some kitchen wear (love this touch in Ausie hotels), toaster and small frig. The a/c in the room was a bit noisy (the small self-contained window units built into the outside wall always tend to be louder unless well-maintained); so it was hard to decide between road or a/c noise! Wireless is available for 5 dollars/day, which is reasonable, but the signal is very low with only two bars from top floor and the transfer rate slow. The hotel is located on the main coastal and next to the town center with easy access just through a walkway at the rear of the hotel. However, the area around the hotel is a bit noisy. Starting before dawn there are garbage trucks collecting trash (about 6am), followed shortly by the large trucks (lorries, haulers and construction) that accelerate/decelerate up and down the steep grade just outside the hotel (7am to 5pm!). Also, the roaring motorbikes or sports cars can be easily heard throughout the day and night (I can’t imagine what the busy summer holiday weekends are like!). This is most unfortunate for those who would otherwise enjoy a quite vacation with the balcony doors open to let fresh sea air flow (I stayed on the top floor facing east towards the bay). So, traffic noise – strike one. (Shoal Bay seems more quite). There is a drive-up bottle shop and loud bar right next door with late night bands (my gosh! Is there a noise ordinance in this small town?) – strike two – big time. But for some, having a booze store and bar right next door to a hotel may be a plus! And the view, well, not much of any view except the bottle shop, hotel, parking lot next door (the combo “all-in-one” Hotel/Bar/Liquor store ‘XXXX Gold’ Seabreeze Plaza – what a dump – like a small town party house on steroids) – strike three for no view. If you are looking for a quite place with a very good ocean view….well, possibly Shoal Bay and Ana Bay may be a better choice.

Having travelled from sydney with kids, it was a refief to get to this hotel and find plenty to do. Our kids spent the whole day flipping between the pool and the tennis court. The room was clean and new - bed was supurb. they could do some work and replace the washer in the guest laundry, it looked to have done some work!

This motel is in a very central spot. When booking the room online, the advertisement advised that the room had an iPod docking station and a beautiful view from the private balcony. It did not have either of those, we were loooking straight into the pub next door and there was no iPod dock at all. We left the next day at 7:30am, the office was not open and there was no after hours area to leave the room keys.
