This is an amazing place to stay for an escape with the most amazing views. We were able to enjoy the beautiful views with the huge lounge room doors open in the middle of winter creating a feeling of summer which is an amazing escape from the freezing winter weather of Sydney. The rooms are huge, perfectly clean and very impressive. I will be recommending Amarna to anyone wanting a high quality holiday. Amazing

Absolutely beautiful views and excellent quality rooms. However this was totally cancelled out by the fact our weekend was ruined by a group of young men staying directly above us. They took charge of the place partying until all hours taking over the pool and capped it off by vomiting onto our balcony from above. They were let do it because of no full time security at the resort and the office/reception was only open for a few hours a day. I wouldnt expect this behaviour anywhere let alone at a so called boutique/ exclusive resort. Very dissapointing and even more dissapointing has been the response from the resort re the apology and compensation.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment on the 2nd level and we loved the place. The views were so beautiful and it was so relaxing. The rooms are very luxurious. The pool was very nice and they had a hot spa next to it. We got a package and got massages on our balcony.

Room Tip: Get the rooms higher up if you would like views.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment over Easter and found the accommodation to be lovely and spacious. The location and ammenities are excellent and having the choice of a pool or the beach at your doorstep is great.
It is walking distance into town but only in daylight (no lights on the pathway) otherwise everything is a quick car trip for any basics for the pantry or fridge.
There is NO breakfast provided and we only got a paper every other day (not sure if that was an Easter thing). When we arrived we were shown how everything works and told the rooms would get a basic service everyday which simply involved making the beds (not changing the sheets) replacing towels and taking out the rubbish. Over 4 nights this did not happen once and we found it easier to take out our own rubbish. We paid absolute premium for this apartment over Easter, as we understand is customary, but did not recieve the most basic of service. I was under the impression you pay a premium because the staff working get paid more and it just rolls over. There was no staff working in our apartment this weekend so the mind boggles. Absolutely no value for money and I suspect as most of the apartments are for sale there are some management issues.
Knowing all this I would still come back but I would not pay the price we were charged. Port Stephens is a fantastic area and so much to do for adults and children.

When you park your car and walk up to the reception it's hard not to wonder why you paid so much per night for your room but never fear the old motel is just a distraction all be it a strange one. The real rooms all have amazing views and luxuriously spacious floor plans. Miele appliances and fast WiFi are a bonus but the lack of an iPod dock or AUX jack is not. All in all a stunning place to unwind.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite for 4 nights and despite the price weren't disappointed. The suite itself was big and luxurious with all the mod cons you would expect from a 5 star property. The pool and the view from our room was nothing short of amazing! Duchies beach is top shelf and having the option of walking 20m to the crystal clear water of the beach or 3m to the huge lap pool surrounded by appetizing sun lounges is tough. Contrary to past reviews no breakfast is supplied and don't expect to bring out your inner master chef as the kitchen utensils are limited. The nespresso coffee machine is a nice addition though. We will be making this a regular destination for a luxurious break!

The appartment was really nice, with a cool sleek luxury/modern design and top range equipment/appliances. View on Nelson Bay is perfect
On the negative side, we were located on the ground floor (slightly altered the view) close to the path to the swimming pool which definitely impacted on privacy. I believe the apartment (#104) should not be priced at the same level as the others (considering it is far from being cheap).

What however was a major disappointment is that service is almost non existent. Reception desk is randomly open from 9 to 5 only, there is no cleaning service and, even if you leave all day the sign "please make up room", nobody will show up and you will have to ask for clean towels. Needless to say that bed is not made and sheets are not changed.

All in all, I rate "very good" because "average" would not give enough credit but is should be just "good". Amarna cannot be ranked as a 5* accomodation (as is claimed on their website) precisely because 5* implies dedicated service and not only luxury settings.
