We dined at Merretts the first evening we stayed at the adjoining Peppers Anchorage resort. We had read reviews at this site, so was keen to try it out ourselves. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. We arrived and placed our order for four courses. We were given an extra appetizer and there was about a 45 minute wait for this, another 45 minutes until we got our starters. After a day of travelling we were very tired and after arriving at 7pm for our evening meal, at 8.30pm we were not certain we would wait for the mains if it was going to take much longer. We asked the staff, who were apologetic and followed up with the chef. Our mains arrived 20 minutes later. Boy, the wait was worth it. The mains were SPECTACULAR! My husband had the lamb and I had the prawns. YUMMO. Both were cooked perfectly and had plenty of diversity with textures and complimentry tastes. We had our desserts and left about 9.30pm, a little bit drawn out, and the staff did not charge us for our mains due to the wait. We had lunch at the restaurant the next day, salmon and rissotto and these were also absolutely delicious, so much so my husband said he would return JUST for the salmon!

Nice food - not a great atmosphere the night we were there -too noisy with wait staff organising breakfast for the next morning - so go early if you want to go.

The meal at Merritts was excellent, we had the schnapper and it was very good, not overcooked or dried out. The staff were helpful. The wine list was good but expensive.

Since my last review - based on a vist more than 18 months ago - we ate there twice again. I am getting really enthousiastic about the food: well prepared and well presented. Noticeable improvement. The menu has some interesting choices like duck and nice seafood dishes. Price-quality ratio has improved since our last visit while the wines are not cheap but not overpriced either. The service is friendly but not really professional... They didn't offer me to taste the wine last time we were there.
And they make mistakes: when we chekced our bill we noticed we were charged for a bottle of wine we did not have. When we enquired after it they corrected the bill but we did not receive an apology... This marred a really pleasant food experience. So, enjoy the very good food but check your bill.

Dinner was fantastic. From the moment we walked through the door at Merretts we were treated like old friends and spoiled all night long. Wait staff were outstanding and the food was absolutely amazing. The wine list wasn’t bad either. Not a cheap meal but not expensive either considering the quality and the presentation. I had barramundi and then the apple crème brulee served with an amazing green apple sorbet. We were treated to an appetizer on the house which was a shot of vichyssoise with truffle oil and deep fried camembert (I think). Yum. Running out of food adjectives. Wonderful night - class act!
We will be back.
