Our recent meal at the Whale restaurant was an enjoyable experience. Beautiful house smoked trout with great local produce. The spiced squid with capsicum and aioli excellent. Smoked rack of lamb a great flavour though a little overdone. The barramundi in a broth with fennel very tasty. A standout for dessert was the Turkish delight sorbet with an intense flavour. A small complaint was dealt with well by the staff. All in all an enjoyable meal and evening out.

I was in a party of eight who recently dined at the Whale Restaurant. We were really impressed by the ambiance and mood of the restaurant. The tables were beautifully set with white linen and nice quality wine glasses, Overall the service was good. however we were disappointed that at such a high class restaurant that the wait staff could not remember who had ordered which meal and failed to recognise that extra cutlery was required to suit the dishes ordered. E.g. cobb loaves where order ed which came out on paddles with not enough herb butter, and the waiter did not think to set a bread and butter knife. This then meant that as the evening progressed, there was not enough cutlery to cover the courses ordered.
We are all of the opinion that the food was far too salty. The portions were small, however overall quite good apart from the salt. Prices were a little high given the quality of the food.
We were disappointed because we expected to enjoy the whole evening at the restaurant, however we arrived at 6:00pm and after bread and two courses we were out of the restaurant by 8:00 pm.
Some of us have attended the restaurant previously and did not find this visit to the standard of previous visits.
The restaurant exudes fine dining on first impressions, however based on the service and the quality of food on this occasion they could not pull it off.

We went to The Whale for dinner. The service was quite good and the waitress friendly but the food was very second rate and not what I would have expected from a restaurant of this supposed quality and price. There was bits of shell in the oyesters, which are shucked onsite. The steak was over cooked and included a horseradish aioli which was not spelt out on the menu smeared all over the plate and the vegeatables. The fish was good. Overall a disappointing experience for a very high price.

Our group of four had a delightful mid-week evening, with all the trimmings. Unlike an earlier reviewer, I found the decor and food of a high quality and quantities were fine. Pork Belly was great, and I know my pork bellies :) Take the time to have a cup of the locally blended tea. A nice finish to the meal. Chocolate creme-brulee dessert thingy was tops.

We ate at this restaurant about 12 months ago and loved everything about it. A warm welcoming, beautifully presented meals that lingered on the palate and in the mind. A cosy, comfy, elegant dining room. It was the total package, we were really looking forward to returning for another amazing taste sensation. What a huge let down. Not too many restaurants use paper over their starched, white table cloths, but for some reason they feel it's fine to do so. NO, it's not, it looks cheap and nasty. Entrees were less than exciting, portion size minute, pork belly not rendered properly, scallop entree a real nothing( l think he forgot the dressing). The cured salmon was nice, but again, I don't think it was a finished plate. Main meal, the sword fish was cooked well, but as for the crab salad and whatever else it was meant to be, it was a real nothing, I think they forgot the crab. All in all, Extremely disappointing and memorable for all the wrong reasons.
