We stayed there one night with baby. We came to hotel quite late and they were waiting for us. Restaurant was already close, but they were willing to cook something for late dinner. The couple who owns that place was so great and also the lady in the kitchen.

Rooms was spacious, modern and with toaster, minibar and FREE internet.

Came to the Whale with colleagues to stay the night before a fishing trip. Having just come from a week of 5 star hotels in Melbourne and Sydney I didnt expect much. Was very surprised. The rooms are clean but each is very different in size and ammenities. (We had 4 spearate rooms all very different.) Whilst not a big city 5 star this small place was spotlessly clean, rooms had fresh carpet, flat screens and quality bedding.

The restaurant was the real surprise. I am always suspucious of a small place like this that takes on too much with a large menu but everything we had was spot on. From a massive serving of king prawns to a well done rabbit and a wonderfully seasoned salmon the food was great. Wine selection was absolutely top notch and deserts didn't dissapoint. Two of us ordered cheese plates where one would have held the interest of the entire table for both variety and amount.

The view is stunning and the staff most helpful. All in all a really nice place.

I confess to being a "view freak" so I found it hard not to be impressed with the Whale with its magnificent hilltop position overlooking the ocean, shore, inlet entrace, lagoon, mountains etc. Our room was a tad dated but spacious with plasma TV and kitchenette and no significant problems. The large balcony with table and chairs really made it great. Narooma seems to have about three separate shopping areas and the Whale is central to one of them with an excellent pizza takeaway just across the road which is just as well as we found the restaurant poor value with something of a 'faulty towers' touch about it but still with great views.

We are from the US on vacation in Australia and we planned to drive from Sydney to Melbourne. After a beautiful drive down the coast we stopped at the Narooma information center and asked about a place to stay for the night. My travel book mentioned the Whale, so I asked about it. I love the information centers in Australia! They booked the room for us.

The room was well appointed, we had a view of the pool and a little view of the harbor. My in-laws also traveled with us, so we got a family suite, with one bath, a king bed and two twin beds, and some kitchen amenities. The beds were firm, everything was clean and the view was fantastic from the dining room.

We decided to book dinner there too. We ordered mostly appetizers, oysters and a rabbit dish, the bread and olives. All excellent. Just as we were finishing dinner, the owner came by with a bottle of wine, from his family winery and filled our glasses! it was excellent wine, and sadly I cannot remember the label.

The Whale is an wonderful place to stay and the owners and hosts were all very nice and generous. I wish we had more time to spend in Narooma.

We arrived at the Whale Moter Inn around 6.30pm after a long days drive from Sydney. We hadn't pre booked and were advised that they only had one room left which was a suite at $155 per night. Although the size of the room was good and we had a balcony all be it overlooking the carpark the overall decour really needed updating.
The suite consisted of a bathroom which was clean but very dated, a bedroom, living area which contained a fridge, microwave, sink, kettle, a single bed and settee.
The nights are very cold in April so we expected some sort of heating in the room but there wasn't any - having said that we did eventually discover that were electric blankets on the beds.
We didn't use the hotel restaurant but it did look very busy when we arrived.
Overall it was an ok hotel to stay for one night, the staff were very friendly, could do with refurbishment and we thought it was over priced for that standard of accommodation

To be fair I only booked 6 weeks before staying but we got the last room available and it was called a executive suite. It was still $190 per night. I was not told it did not have a view except trees, it did not have a bath/spa and I'm not sure how it can be 4 star. It was the disabled room which of course is great that there is one but I felt I should have been told. There were some cracks in the tiles in bathroom and on some walls, it urgently needs refurbishing as very dated. The bed was firm but fine. Balcony overlooks carpark. There is also a single bed and sofa bed too. Free small bottle of water and basic crockery/cutlery supplies if you want to microwave cook. The iron leaked but was replaced as soon as we asked. I wouldn't chose the small rooms on ground floor unless you like looking directly into pool with associated noise. The top room in corner would be best as away from noise of pool and would have best view. It was in the best location as handy to the main street which was important to us. The view from restaurant is stunning but we did not eat there. Great places to eat are Lynches hotel across road, the best seafood platter @$25 per head hot and cold is at Taylors you need to book it 24 hours in advance. Great breakfast around the corner from Taylors called Pelicans just the best waterfront dining ! You MUST do the cruise on the Wagonga Princess with Charlie just 3 hours of great fun for $33 each adult max. 20 on the 100 year old boat which includes bush devonshire tea and fresh oysters ! Leaves from Taylors wharf.
Ask when booking your room here for specific details of where it is and you should be ok. I was expecting better for the price and description.
