“Inflexible chefs but popular with locals.”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

The best outdoor setting in the town. Some good vegetarian choices and filtered water - yay! More gluten free, sugar free and healthier options would earn a higher vote from me(My last two meals were swimming in vinegar). A bit sad they are only happy to make what is on the menu without variation. Caring and friendly hosts.

“Coffee & food in Murwillumbah - sorted.”

Searching for a place for breakfast. sugarbeat has a great menu, coffee is excellent and the service first rate. Great atmosphere, unpretentious and reasonable price. The locals love it so it must be good!

“home town favourite”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

This cafe was always a regular haunt since the original owners, Barb & Brad, set it up. Great, fresh food and friendly service at fair prices. Wait staff at Sugar Beat are generally the best in town - friendly, well presented and appear to enjoy their work. Since changeover of ownership, the energetic vibe of Barb and Brad is missing but the quality of the food has remained fairly constant. Prices have increased eg. a glass of fresh squeezed juice now around $6.20 so value not quite there anymore. Still a great place to catch up with friends for a quick bite to eat.

“Thank Goodness”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

Driving from Brisbane to Ballina we were desperate for a late afternoon meal and came upon Seugar Beat (not Beet!). 3 of us and we ordered the hamburger and two chicken ceaser burgers. They were really good and you didn't hear much conversation from us as we ate. I ordered a banana/mango shake which tasted very nice. The staff were friendly.

“Unpretentious with quality fresh food and great coffee.”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

SB is relaxed with friendly prompt, unrushed service and a smile. If you come into Murwillumbah over the bridge, turn right. That's Commercial Road and it's on your immediate right. Parking is on the street and there's ample just around the corner at the swimming complex (there is also an ATM within 50m but it has full eftpos). There's outdoor (all weather) and indoor seating. It's somewhat more than a cafe and the food is really really good. Open for breakfast and lunch until late afternoon 5 days 7.30am to 5pm (Sat 7.30am to late morning). The breakfast and lunch menu is extensive with a lot of vegetarian options (not just the usual single option). SB is really child friendly with well considered kids options. It is wheelchair accesible. The prices are very reasonable (think lunch for two with coffee $30-40 (breakfast less). A good cafe has really good coffee and SB doesn't disappoint. We've travelled heaps and had bad, good and great coffee and SB is up there for a really nice brew. We're local and have tried all the places in MBah. Combine food, service, coffee, relaxed atmosphere and price and our view it's the best in town.
