Restaurant details
Dining options: Breakfast, Reservations
Description: With a panoramic outlook across the lush Tweed Valley to the Border Ranges beyond, Tweed Gallery Café offers a unique dining experience with one of the best views in the region. Like its sister restaurant, Mavis's Kitchen, the café prides itself on the provenance of the food it serves, sourcing fresh ingredients from local producers and artisans. Located upstairs at Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre, the café seats up to 100 patrons and is open for breakfast, lunch and light snacks from 9am until 5pm, Wednesdays to Sundays. The café pavilion is also a breathtaking space for hosting weddings and events, and parties of up to 160 seated guests or 200 cocktail-style can be accommodated within the café premises and/or the adjoining gallery foyer area.

From Café to cafeteria

I’m a long term Tweed resident and will no longer be taking friends and visitors to the Tweed River Gallery café. Somehow the management has turned what was a pleasant relaxed feel into one where you feel as though you are a bit of a nuisance and certainly don’t’ have the right to ask for the bits of your meal that are missing or for a cup of coffee that is better than two thirds full. And the food has become as ordinary as the service with obvious precooked microwaved versions of what could be really good. As the title says – Café to cafeteria.

Thank you for your 'review' of the Gallery Cafe.

The Gallery Cafe is now under 'new management' and we encourage you to come and meet the new team including the lovely Giorgia who will look after you from the moment you enter until the moment you won't want to leave.

The menu is new and fresh and when possible, locally sourced.

So please come down and try the food, admire the views, enjoy the atmosphere and say hello.

Kind regards

Pete & Charlie

Like lots of locals I always take visitors to the Gallery Cafe. The view is simply stunning. However I can't tell you how many comments we get about the poor attitude of the staff and lots of questions as to why the menu never seems to change. They could do better - but as it's the only place to eat with a good view in town and located in our stunning award winning art gallery options are limited. Menu is stock standard Cafe fare and never seems to vary. Coffee is excellent - and the cakes not all made by Priestly's in Brisbane. For a first timer you will be amazed, as a regular I think it's time the Council had a quite word in the proprietor's ear. They can do better.

We were taken here to view the art which is totally spectacular and such a find in a relatively out of the way place. Afterwards, sitting on the outside deck for a truly lovely lunch was a delight. Our tastes were eclectic, some wanted light, one wanted more substantial, one a vegan meal, another would go either way. The food was fresh, beautifully prepare and presented, and I would come back any day. The surroundings entice you to linger and have a really 'long lunch'. Wine too!

Obviously a spectacularly beautiful place to go and the menu is now more inclusive but the service (or lack thereof) is poor. Filtered water is a must in any cafe in this century!
