“Mavis Kitchen Murwillumbah”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

We dined here for dinner with a family group of 14 people, on 14.9.13. We chose this restaurant as we were told it was a beautiful location with great food. We were not at all disappointed with the amazing location, however we were disappointed with the quality of the meals. Overall the meals were small and both meals and service were not at all on par with the pricing. For example, those of us who ordered salmon were served with a dry piece of salmon (approx 60x40x25mm)at least half the size described by our waitress when ordered, and served with a drizzle of salad and dressing. The starters of sour dough and antipasto were small, very dry and served with just olives and pastrami.
One of our entrees was sized and priced as a main. We were unable to bring our own birthday cake, but they were happy to make a cake to order and charge us $8.50 per head. They were not prepared to split the bill, and though many restaurants have similar policies, it presented difficulties for us as we were such a large group and it was an isolated location with no teller machines within a 15 min radius. Despite booking ahead our group was split and placed on two seperate tables and staff had to consult with management before begrudgingly moving the tables together (our tables were on a verandah and moving them did not affect any other diners). Perhaps a devonshire tea during the day would be preferrable if planning to visit this restaurant, as their scones (ordered for desert) were amazing).

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

It is worth making a booking for Mavis's so that you can get a table on the verandah and enjoy the view of the gardens. The food was great, especially the rosé water meringue,! The service was very friendly and prompt. On our next trip to Queensland we will make sure we return for another pleasant afternoon, make sure you put it on your must do list!

Thank you for your lovely positive review.

Your comments will be passed on to the 'team' at Mavis's including Emma our talented pastry chef who made the meringue.

All of our desserts are made fresh and from scratch by our talented kitchen team. Well done.

Kind regards

Pete & Charlie

“Pleasant afternoon stop”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

We discovered on a sunday afternoon drive. We had Devonshire teas and found surrounding lawns, etc very picturesque. Scones were to die for, and tea and coffee beautiful. We will certainly be returning to try dinner and lunch menus.

“Scenic location, Atmosphere, nice service, food ok”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

We drove down from the Gold Coast to have lunch here for an occasion. The drive is scenic and peaceful and the views on arrival are restful. The building itself is an old Queenslander that was moved from the Gold Coast and is perfect for the location.
We visited in late August and are locals, and despite the beautiful weather it was very cold, so take something warm if you need to rug up .
On arrival we were made feel welcome. The tables were lovely and all had different but nice views.
Service was good and friendly.
The menu was lacking and did not have the number of meals the online menu has. Prices were ok but high for what you actually get. The meal standards were a bit less than pub standards, so if you are wanting to go especially for the food, it was not the place on this visit.
Portion sizes were about right and the food was fresh. Overall a nice experience

“Sunday lunch”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Had in the back of my mind to visit this place for some time. Was pleased on visiting the Tweed Art Gallery to find a business card in the cafe there and luckily we were able to secure a table for lunch an hour or so later. Absolutely beautiful location, drove from Tweed Art Gallery via Uki (lucky enough for the markets to be on too)...then on to Mavis's Kitchen. Beautiful old queenslander with beautiful green manicured grounds. Friendly greeting and shown to our table on the deck with a lovely view. It was explained to us how the ordering system works here and we ordered our drinks and main meals. We were advised there may be quite a wait so a suggestion of a tasting platter was made. This was delicious and much appreciated as we were starving ! Our main meals took a very long time to come out which would be my only gripe. Sunday lunch is meant to be a leisurely affair so we weren't too concerned but very grateful when the mains finally arrived about 1.5 hours after our arrival. They were delicious too..couldnt fault them ! I just wish i had room to try to rose water merangue as that sounded wonderful. The staff are absolutely run off their feet and credit to them they handle it well. Lovely place to come if you have young children too, many bookings downstairs and all the kids seemed to enjoy running around in the sun. I would love to come back here maybe on a mid week when its not so crazy busy.
