Nine of us staying over a weekend in March '13 visited The River for dinner. It is a very pleasant One Hat restaurant and the food was good if not a bit sparse. Well presented, fresh and a very nice atmosphere and attentive staff.
But, why do a lot of restaurants these days serve up the main meal without vegetables and or salads and charge extra for them. As a member of the Wine and Food Society, I deplore this ;'modern' trend to charge extra for food which should always be served as part of the main meal!
The tendency for restaurants to also charge 'like the Light Brigade for bottles and glasses of wine when the retail prices are about two-thirds less than the restaurant prices is something that needs to be addressed. It is a rip-off!
However, in favour of The River was the atmosphere and the attentive staff and well presented food. Cost was Sydney priced..about $130 for two being entree, mains and dessert plus 4 glasses of wine.
