“Classy, friendly and great attention to detail”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

We stayed at Bannisters for one night (had hoped for two nights but the budget wouldn't stretch that far!) in November 2012 in a spa room. I was weary of staying here given some of the feedback on here but we decided to give the hotel a go anyway.

The hotel is in a secluded residential area, about 3 minutes drive from Mollymook beach. The exterior of the hotel was very modern and looked impressive. The reception staff were attentive and friendly and gave us detailed info about our room, parking, pool area, dinner etc. The hotel overlooks the ocean (we saw dolphins from our balcony!) and is close to a gorgeous snorkeling beach (Jones Beach) - definitely check it out if you have time.

The spa room was beautiful with a big bathroom, massive spa for two people, rain shower above spa, comfy king bed and ocean views. The bathroom was clean and had quality amenities. The heated towel rail and LED tealight candles were a lovely touch.

The bed was comfy with crisp and silky sheets. We had a balcony overlooking the pool and ocean which was great. We stayed on a Thursday night and, although there were people at the pool, we weren't disturbed by the noise from the pool at all. Overall the room was great and I loved the little extras (a big pile of recent magazines, umbrella for each room, bathrobes etc).

The pool area was great and the staff at the bar were efficient and friendly. The cocktails were delicious, though expensive, and the food looked fab (didn't get around to ordering anything though). The pool was a little chilly for swimming, though it was great to sit by the pool and relax.

The restaurant was exceptional (I'll review separately) and breakfast was first class. The restaurant staff were brilliant.

Overall, a wonderful stay. I would come down more often if the prices were a little friendlier. For now though, it's a beautiful hotel for special occasions.

We had a spa room- spa in the bathroom but huge louvre doors open so you can see outside. Room overlooks the horizon pool, lovely gum trees and the beautiful ocean. It was wonderfully romantic, all amenities supplied and good quality.

Room Tip: If you dont like spas, choose the less expensive ocean view room

We stayed for 2 nights for a birthday treat and paid $375 per night. For that we did not get a car space because wedding guests at the lawn wedding had taken them all. Eventually we had to park in the delivery bay upstairs away from our room. Our room was above the pool bar and it was so noisy it felt like all the bar was in our room ! On the advice of the bar staff we booked a table and when we arrived there was no table and no booking!! There was a group in a private room and by the way they were all swaying on their platform high heeled shoes I suspect that responsible service of alcohol is not practiced here. To make matters worse, when the bar closed they all gathered outside our room to discuss where they would go next.
The shower was minute and the room was not as good as we were led to believe it would be. The view was great but I object to whoever was in the room above us ashing his/her cigarette on to us below.
For what we paid I expected it to be better than it was.

Room Tip: Don't stay in rooms 7 or 8 or you will get all the noise from the bar below!!!

Dear Christine,
I am very disappointed that we failed to meet your expectations and what should have been a lovely birthday weekend was spoiled. It seems to me that several of the issues you experienced were due to conflicting requirements of wedding guests and inhouse guests. Your experience indicates that we mishandled the juggling of these elements and need to review our policies surrounding pool bar weddings. I would like to personally apologise on behalf of all the staff, on this occasion our service has fallen short.
Should you wish to discuss in person please contact me on peterbacon@bannisters.com.au.
Kind regards,
Peter Bacon

We drove down from Sydney for a wedding anniversary weekend. We booked at the last minute but we able to get a Penthouse but without a view. The room is huge and very comfortable with a oval spa blowing bubbles and twin hand basins. The Restraunt had a great menu. I had lobster, ($120) and my partner watched whales. Then more whales for breakfast plus kippers. Very good.

We stayed over at Bannisters for our first time over a weekend, mid October in the Pacific Penthouse. We had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing time. The penthouse is very well appointed with all the necessary technology provided for in the room including a wireless router, plasma TV, DVD player, TV in the bedroom and CD player. The bathroom has an amazing egg shaped bath and the shower cleverly converts into a steam room at the touch of a button. An expansive balcony, kitted out with comfortable and trendy outdoor furniture, provides for some amazing views out into the the ocean.

The only thing we thought was missing was perhaps a gym although they do provide pushbikes and there are some amazing walks around the area.

Rick Steins restaurant does not disappoint. The food was delicious and the service impeccable. We found the breakfast was nice although the menu a bit limited. The pool bar was very nice to eat at. Great atmosphere and yummy pizza.

Overall, Bannisters is a fantastic location to get away from the big smoke for some R&R in comfort and style. We will definitely be back.

Ok first up, don't book here on a budget or if you're price sensitive, you'll be less likely to truly enjoy your time. This hotel offers a sensational experience in spades, from the cosy, well appointed room, to the beautiful pool side bar. The jewel in the crown is the restaurant, breakfast is great and if you get the kind of weather we got you simply won't want to leave. Dinner is a real treat, huge wine list and beautiful food. The menu reads like a sampler of the styles of cuisine Rick Stein writes about in his books, all of which are available to purchase and, if you're lucky, you might even get your copy signed.
The staff are wonderfully friendly and genuinely interested in making your stay or dining experience as pleasurable as possible.

My husband, my father, 3 year old son and myself thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bannisters and our meal at Rick Stein's restaurant. Our rooms were clean and beautifully decorated with stunning views of the ocean. Falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the rocks was a joy. The staff in the Restaurant bent over backwards to ensure everyone had a wonderful meal. My son was welcomed and given a goodie badly that kept him occupied and happy while we settled down to eat. We have been fans of Rick Stein for many years and it was a pleasure to experience his food. We had the Bannister Fish Pie and it did not disappoint. Breakfast in the morning was relaxed and just as delicious. We can't wait to stay at Bannisters again.
