Stayed here for 1 night in October. First class from start to finish. Staff were all very pleasant. Had a relaxation massage in the spa-staff here too were very nice. Couldn't recommend this place any more to anyone whether its for 1 night or more. Overall a fantastic stay. Thanks to all.

Bannisters is basically a well done up travel lodge. Having said that the location and the views were brilliant.
The room was fine, not too flash but as I said the views make-up for that..
We dined at Ricks which was very good, it was just a shame there was no atmosphere as there was only 2 other tables. It was pretty pricey but the oysters and sausage was a really, really fabulous dish and worth it on its own.
Breakfast was very good but charging extra for a espresso/cappuchino is a bit cheeky.
I recommend visiting mid-week as the prices are much better.
Had a great massage in the spa.

My partner and I just returned from a weekend in Bannisters for our anniversary. I read the reviews and knew what to expect with regard to it being a refurbished motel however it did not quite live up to our expectations.

We stayed in a Spa Room with the spa on the balcony which I would actually recommend however we paid the premium weekend rate of $435 per night, as we were unable to get a better deal on Wotif and we really wanted to travel this weekend due to babysitting arrangments. The room was around the size I expected (smallish) and was tastefully decorated however it was the small things that did not quite live up to the expectations.

The bathroom was completely tiny and smelt a little like sewerage when we arrived. Also the shower leaked a large puddle onto the floor and we required extra towels each day to soak this up. Inside the shower was just a little grubby and looked like it needed a good scrub around the corners etc.

The spa bath out on the balcony was fabulous and very private which we loved however the cane light fitting above the spa was covered in cobwebs and was quite dirty which seemed a massive oversight for a place charging this much money. A nice touch was the rechargable tealights with little candle holders provided which made for a nice atmosphere.

The bed was quite comfortable and there were some movie channels available on the television which was nice for us.

The breakfast was lovely with a small continental breakfast buffet of cereal, yoghurt, amazing poached and fresh fruits, croissants and toast etc. You then got to select a cooked breakfast off the menu which was freshly made and brought to the table. The complimentary papers at breakfast were also a nice touch. As with others I think an additional charge for an espresso coffee is a bit steep.

We ate dinner the first night at Rick Stein Restaurant which was just fine however I will review this seperately.

The pool bar was lovely and the guy working the bar there was really great and friendly. We only went down there once in the afternoon for cocktails and a bowl of olives (which was a generous portion) which were nice and it was nice to sit on a cozy lounge in the sun. We also played a couple of games of pool. Unfortunately the pool was still a bit chilly for any swimming so we did not use the pool.

I had always wanted to visited Bannisters and whilst I did enjoy the weekend I did not think it was worth the $1,200 (including 3 courses each plus wine at Rick Stein's) that we paid for it. If you do wish to go I would recommend taking advantage of their mid week specials and cheaper rates they offer.

Room Tip: If you want an outdoor spa, the Spa suites with the spa on balcony are lovely and private. They are...

Had a gorgeous, both weather and ambiance wise, few days at Bannisters.

A dinner or lunch at Rick Stein's is a must, seafood was excellent, but a little pricey for the South coast.

Stayed in a penthouse, not worth the extra bucks, but avoid the rooms near the pool bar, can get noisy. The bar snacks at the pool bar are also delicious.

Fantastic north east aspect.

Room Tip: Not near the pool bar!

We headed off to explore the NSW southern coastal areas to discover some easy-drive couples weekend options now we have relocated to Sydney. Bannisters was fine for a last minute, one-off stay – but too many things fell short for their pricing to warrant a revisit or a glowing review.

Though the external presentation of the establishment was very positive and apparently luxurious, the guest rooms are most certainly not better than tarted-up motel accommodations with the exception of the several suite options which certainly appeared to be the cream of the Bannisters offerings.

The bathrooms were particularly tired (paint coming off walls, mould, broken toilet seat) and not at all well-appointed with little room for one let alone two toiletries bags. The simple addition of more shelving would go a long way to making these spaces function at least. Further, noise from other rooms and staff operational activities were both an issue – the worst being the restaurant staff dumping bottles into commercial waste bins at 1.00am with absolutely no consideration for the disruption to guests’ rooms.

The staff in reception, bar and restaurant were all obviously so seasoned in their routines that they have forgotten each new guest is exactly that – a “new” guest so the guest experience should always strive for a positive impression rather than tiredly going through the motions – which was how we were treated for the most part. Though pleasant, barely a genuine smile was encountered.

The Pool Bar, which is the only out-of-room alternative for dinner other than their very expensive restaurant, featured a musician on the Friday night – this was a lovely atmospheric addition to the bar environment but somewhat at odds with a peaceful getaway and fortunately our room was far enough away from the bar to be able to escape the late night noise. Other rooms located directly above and adjacent to the bar would not have been so lucky – so if you want a peaceful weekend where you are listening to nothing but the surf – this is not the place for you or make sure you can get a room away from the bar.

The layout within the Pool Bar area was clearly not their summer setting but temporary for winter chill, but was not thought out in this objective at all. We watched every couple/family circle the various areas of the bar multiple times to try and find a suitable seating nook – but the furnishing layout was simply dysfunctional for most guests we observed. Further, on a freezing, blowy night, the installed bar heating on the ceiling and the stone fireplace was not even in use. This further compromised the atmospheric potential of the bar area so they get a BIG FAIL on this level and it is further evidence management has removed itself significantly from the guest experience.

Breakfast in the restaurant was very average – enough said. We were pleased we had not dined their the night before if breakfast was an indicator of standards and extra pleased we did not book two nights accommodation there.

Room Tip: If you are seeking peace and quiet, make sure you get a room away from the bar which has live music...

This time we stayed in a luxury suite - well worth the extra few dollars. Amazing views from our very spacious room. We also had a great antipasto plate in the pool bar. Fantastic night away - thanks!
